Scalpers on Xbox Series X 1,000 orders canceled - karma wins

If you've ever tried to get your hands on an Xbox Series X or PS5, you know how difficult it is. Demand is high, and duffers are making things worse by using bots to buy up inventory.

But there is good news for those who have been cursing the fools who bragged about their buyouts. UK retailer Very has canceled 1,000 of the pre-orders.

The Xbox Series X and PS5 duffers have been in the news for the past few weeks, all because of the launch of the next generation of gaming consoles. Various groups have been using bots to buy up inventory and boast that they can sell PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles on aftermarket sites like eBay for horrendously high prices.

As we write this article, one PS5 auction on eBay has closed, selling for $1,025, more than double the MSRP. Some duffers claimed to have sold the console for as much as $2,000, apparently angering many people.

But as they say, cause and effect, Very has now canceled over 1,000 orders from the weekend, telling Sky News, "As a result of a technical error, some people were able to order PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles for a short time on Sunday. However, these items have not been sold and the affected customers have received notification that their orders have been cancelled. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Unfortunately, this did not affect only the duffers; legitimate users have also had their orders cancelled. In addition, Very has not confirmed that these consoles are actually on hand, and legitimate customers have been told that it could take up to 10 days for a refund.

Sadly, this is another case of duffers ruining it for everyone.

Retailers have ways to avoid duffers and bots buying up inventory faster than real people. Unfortunately, duffers can get around them, and the ability to bulk order consoles is a monetized commodity in itself. One group that has gained attention in recent weeks is charging $40 per month ($400 for lifetime access) to join the scalping community.

Of course, the only way to prevent this is to not buy gaming consoles from scalpers; the PS5 and Xbox Series X will eventually be restocked, but buying from scalpers at inflated prices will only encourage scalpers.
