The PS5 was finally released in November. And it proved to be an amazing console with a killer lineup of games, from "Astro's Playroom" to "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales." For some unlucky buyers, however, the PS5 has also been a source of frustration.

Rather, some users have encountered problems with the PS5 since its debut; reports of PS5 glitches include crashes, software issues, irritating noises, and even system bricking. It is difficult to gauge how widespread the problems are, but if you are going to spend $499 for a new console, everyone expects it to arrive problem-free.

So that PS5 owners can get an idea of what problems they are encountering, we have collected various errors, bugs, and problems with the PS5 that you should be aware of, along with whether Sony has issued any patches to fix them. (Sony has fixed some issues with some of the updates, but many issues still remain.)

The biggest problems with the PlayStation 5 and what fixes are available are listed below.

November 25, 2020 System Update: Sony has implemented a new system update for the PS5 that resolves issues that many users have reported, including the "waiting for download" issue, where games purchased or redeemed with a code from the PlayStation Store The update resolves issues that prevented users from accessing games purchased or redeemed with codes from the PlayStation Store.

According to Sony's patch notes, the November 25 update is intended to improve system performance and resolve an issue that sometimes caused disc versions of games to be deleted. It also resolves an issue where the PS5 wireless controller would not charge during rest mode when connected to the USB Type-A port on the front of the PS5 with the USB cable included with the console.

Connection issues with PlayStation Network: There have been reports of problems connecting to PlayStation®Network when downloading games from PlayStation®Network. In most cases, this is unlikely to be a PS5-specific issue, but when downloading updates for the new console, some users have reported on social media that they had problems connecting online when they received their new console.

There is currently no clear solution to this PS5 problem.

Transferring data from PS4 to PS5 via USB or LAN: When you first get your PS5, you may be tempted to connect it directly to your PS4 and transfer everything to the new system in one fell swoop. as it appears when you turn on your PS4, you can connect your PS4 via USB or LAN to your Connecting the PS5 will allow you to do this.

However, users have experienced system crashes, errors, and further problems when trying this method. Since a firmware update has not yet been made to resolve this issue, it may be best to hold off on this task for now.

Rest Mode Crashes Console: Rest mode on the PS5 is hardly a new feature, but it has been plaguing users recently. Rest mode interrupts the game and keeps the game up-to-date while away from the system. Some players have been forced to rebuild their databases due to crashes or fatal errors when trying to use rest mode. In some cases, the console even bricks.

There is currently no fix from Sony for this particular problem, but it is always possible to turn off rest mode on an interim basis to prevent such problems from occurring. From the Settings menu, select System Settings, select Power Saving, select Set the amount of time before PS5 enters rest mode, and then select Do not enter rest mode. Your console should at least be safe from these complaints.

External hard drive corruption: Sony has long touted the use of an external hard drive as one of the PS5's most useful features; you can store your PS4 games on it and have plenty of extra space in addition to what the system comes with. However, problems have been reported with transferring data from the PS4 system to the PS5 using an external hard drive. Some users have also lost data stored on the hard drive.

No solution has yet been provided by Sony, so it is best to avoid using external storage at this time.

Error code CE-108262-9: Users who routinely experience system crashes, failures, or error code CE-108262-9 may be experiencing system degradation or hardware defects.

CE-108262-9 is not the type of error code that waits for a firmware fix. If this error appears repeatedly (or even several times), please contact PlayStation support for possible solutions. At this time, we do not know how to fix this error code.

Queued for Download error: When the PS5 attempts to download a game from the PlayStation Store, it may display the message "Download is waiting" and the download will not begin. This can occur when downloading titles for both PS5 and PS4.

The latest system update seems to have fixed this issue and it is no longer necessary to perform a factory reset or system rebuild. Fortunately, this no longer seems to bother PS5 owners.
