Anyone with even half an eye on the gaming world knows that the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was riddled with problems.

First announced eight years ago, that is, before the PS4 and Xbox One were released, let alone the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the game was politely full of bugs. Some of the bugs are quite interesting, but the performance is so bad that Sony has taken the unprecedented step of removing the game from the PlayStation Store and offering "no questions asked" refunds.

And now the worst bug has come to light. It seems that if the size of a saved game exceeds 8 MB, it is broken and the player's hard-earned progress is lost.

The issue appears to affect players playing the PC version (including the Stadia stream) and has been the subject of much discussion on CD Projekt Red's forums and Reddit. After comparing saved games and conducting some hardcore experiments, the common denominator seems to be the size of the saved games.

While the 8MB limit has not been officially confirmed, developers have acknowledged the issue, and Good Old Games, a platform owned by CD Projekt, has added a support page on saved game corruption to verify the link to file size.

"Unfortunately, the save file is corrupted and cannot be recovered." To continue playing, use the old save file and try to keep the amount of items and crafting materials small. If you used duplicate item glitches, please load a save file that is not affected by them."

So the current solution seems to be to try to limit the number of items in your inventory, which is usually incompatible with huge, sprawling open-world RPGs. And while this file size limit "may" be addressed in a future patch, the page states that "corrupted files will remain as such."

Based on this wording, it is doubtful that the save game issue will be fixed when the 1.05 patch arrives on PC, at least until January, when the next patch is scheduled, and unless the company finds a way to fix it with a simple hotfix, this problem will remain a big For PC players, it would be wisest to play other games until then, but if you just can't get enough, crafting in moderation.
