Escape the pesky zoom call with this new "Exit button"

The 2020 holiday season is shaping up to be the year of the video call. But Zoom calls aren't always the best, and you may wish there was a quick and easy way to make them. Like a panic button that immediately disconnects the call.

Thankfully, Anomaly's creative director, Brian Moore, has developed a way to hang up without having to fumble around trying to hang up.

Mobile video calls aren't so bad, since you can just tap the "hang up" button on the screen unless the button disappears for some reason. But what about on a desktop or laptop? Well, that's not so bad, because you have to fiddle with the mouse to find the cursor, make sure it's in the right position, and hope the button doesn't go away.

This is a pain we've all experienced, and the worst part is that everyone on the call can see everything.

That's why we're such big fans of the Zoom call Brian created. It's not a giant red "panic" button, but it's the next best thing.

The exit button consists of an Adafruit mini-computer, a battery, and some soldered cables. In addition, any physical activation switch could be chosen. It can be a button, if desired, or a comically large lever.

Indeed, the only limit here is your imagination, as David Zhou demonstrated when he set the exit button to end the zoom every time he sighed exaggeratedly.

Everything you need, from code to how to make it, can be found on GitHub, because all the Chrome tabs that open Google Meet will also be deleted.

Still, if your grandparents start causing drama during a holiday Zoom call, there's a quick and easy way to get out. Assuming, of course, that all the appropriate parts are on hand.
