Cyberpunk 2077 developers deny that the cut content will come back as a free DLC

Update: 6:45 a.m. ET: CD Projekt Red denied the accuracy of the post, saying on its official forums, "We don't usually comment on rumors, but this is simply not true."

While they did not elaborate on whether the entire series of comments were false or only some of them, all of the anonymous posters' statements are suspect: "We were already quite skeptical, since 4Chan

is the originator, but now we are not so sure. While it is true that free DLC is on the way and a lot of content was cut from the final game, it is unclear if the two will be combined in a future update:

Not a day goes by that Cyberpunk 2077 is not in the news, but developer CD Projekt Red rumors of promised free DLC have been heard. Specifically, this DLC will unlock some of the content that was supposedly cut from the game.

This is according to people on 4chan (also archived on GameFAQs) who claim to have worked on the game. And they specifically referred to the plans as a "No Man's Sky-style comeback."

You may remember that when No Man's Sky was released, the final game was a huge disappointment, full of bugs and failing to live up to promised expectations. That sounds familiar, doesn't it? In the end, a constant stream of patches and content helped "No Man's Sky" recover, and CDPR seems to be hoping for the same thing to happen with "Cyberpunk 2077".

According to this post, CD Projekt Red has cut extensive content from the game, much of which is being restored for release later this year. The first update is expected to arrive in mid-March and be completed by late June. If we are to believe this posting, this will be the version of the game that the developer originally wanted to release.

The post details content that was cut due to censorship, such as NPC children using drugs, various side quests, and other areas of the game that did not make it to release. Some of the explorable locked apartments and hidden underground sections of the Nosferatu-inspired city were cut because executives said they looked "ugly" and were not specified.

Of course, anyone can identify themselves on the Internet. They could be CDPR developers, and the whole thing could be a scam. We will just have to wait and see what happens from now until June.

The news that content has been cut is no great shock to gamers who have already found evidence in the game's code. Recently, a fan found evidence (via Reddit) that a romance option not available in the main game has been cut.

Originally, CDPR offered a number of options that did not appear in the final game, leaving the option of an awkward encounter with a prostitute or four romantically available NPCs fixed to the character's gender. Players found that with a minor modification, they could restore the possibility of those encounters no matter who they played as.

It is unclear why these options were cut, especially since the full voice files are present in the game's code. However, not all of them make it into the final product.

Players have also found evidence that the monorail station, which would have allowed faster travel through Night City, was not used. Hopefully it will be restored in a future update.

While CDPR is working on an update to Cyberpunk 2077, gamers are taking matters into their own hands; Nexus Mods has already created their own mods to improve the game, including improved vehicle controls and a better minimap.

Many other mods exist, including ray tracing optimization, HDR enhancements, and more. At the time of publication, the site has 28 pages worth of mods.

However, the mods are only available for the PC version, so console players will not be able to enjoy these fan-made enhancements. However, PC players should also be aware that unofficial mods can affect users' games and systems.
