At CES 2021, LG unveiled a new line of soundbars, including the QP5 Éclair.

The QP5 Éclair, which at least somewhat resembles a piece of candy, is a 3.2.1 system with a wireless subwoofer. The soundbar itself is only 11.7 inches wide and 2.3 inches tall, making it more compact than the Polk MagniFi Mini.

In addition to the large lineup announced at CES, from QNED and OLED TVs to wearable air purifiers, the QP5 Éclair's five speakers feature two up-firing drivers that bounce sound off the ceiling and create an Atmos 3D effect. DTS:X is also supported.

Its small stature may give more flexibility in installation. Soundbars are best placed in the center of the TV, but since Eclair is less than 12 inches wide, it could easily fit under a regular 4K big screen as well as a desktop monitor or small kitchen/bedroom TV. It is not entirely useless here either, as it could be squeezed under a freestanding TV with short legs.

With this in mind, LG states that the QP5 Éclair is specifically designed for smaller rooms. It is worth remembering that the output is a modest 100W, 50W lower than the Magnifi Mini, and that narrower soundbars struggle to reproduce the soundstage of wider designs.

Still, the power of Dolby Atmos in such a small package may be appealing. No word yet on pricing, but LG says the QP5 Éclair will be available in June or July of this year.

LG has also announced a range of conventional soundbars like the high-end SP11R, SP9, and SP8, tuned by hi-fi specialist Meridian Audio, that support Atmos, as well as more basic 2.1 LG SN4 and LG SP2 soundbars were also announced. Pricing for the entire series has not yet been announced, but these soundbars will be available in March or April ahead of the QP5 Eclair.
