Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro got 3 major upgrades to fight AirPods Pro

A new software update has been applied to the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, enhancing the wireless earbuds' active noise cancellation (ANC) feature, ambient sound mode, and voice detect feature.

This update follows the first update in January, which added a new volume control feature that allows users to change the volume of each earphone individually. This latest update does not add any brand new features, but improves performance in several areas that our review of the Galaxy Buds Pro found to be lacking.

First, ANC improvements. While this worked well even before the update, Samsung's noise cancellation was simply not at the same level as the AirPods Pro or Bose QuietComfort Earbuds; we will need to test the Galaxy Buds Pro again to see the extent of the changes, but we found the external The earbuds' increased ability to block out external noise is definitely a welcome move.

The same goes for the improved Voice Detect. This feature automatically lowers the playback volume and activates ambient mode when the microphone hears you speaking. This should make it easier to start a conversation without having to take out your buds, but before the update, there was a time lag of about two to three seconds between when you spoke and when the change took effect. According to Samsung, this update should reduce this "switching time" and hopefully make the effect feel seamless.

The third and final change is described as "improved ambient sound functionality"; it is unclear how exactly the Galaxy Buds Pro's transparency mode will be improved. Our reviewer, Alex Brasetti, found that it already has the nice feature of amplifying external sound when needed.

Still, further enhancements would not be a bad thing, especially if they are available for free to anyone who already owns a Galaxy Buds Pro. Now if only Samsung would improve the 360 audio surround sound mode so that it doesn't require an expensive Galaxy handheld.
