Apple Spring 2021 Event Preview - New iPad Pro, AirPods Pro2 and more

If you're looking for a pair of new iPads, new AirPods, or a new iMac, get ready to attend Apple's Spring 2021 event. We expect the big ones in these categories to be announced in March. We expect the new iPad Pro, AirPods3 and AirPods Pro2 to be announced.

Apple hasn't confirmed whether there will be a 3-month event, but given the precedent set by previous years, it seems very likely that it will. So here are all the products that I think Apple might announce at the event.

Looking at the previous years, Apple often drops a lot of product announcements every year around 3 months. For example, last year and in 2019 there was an announcement on 3/18, and in 2018 there was an event on 3/27.

Although not officially confirmed yet, it's not unusual, as Apple will only notify you 1-2 weeks before the launch event. Even if Apple only makes a press release instead of a live event (because of the COVID—19 pandemic as it did last year), there will be no news from Cupertino next month.

The two main things Apple expects to reveal at the spring 2021 event are new releases for both the Pro and standard versions.2 It is a new iPad model and AirPods model. It is also expected that the Apple M1 chip will be equipped with Apple Silicon iMac2021. Hopefully, some details about Apple AirTags and the new Apple TV will be revealed. Both products were rumored to come last year, but never materialized.

The upcoming iPad Pro refresh has some interesting tweaks under the hood. Expect a new mini LED panel instead of an existing LCD panel. This should give an excellent color and contrast to the already impressive screen.

It is also believed that the 12.9-inch model has a thinner bezel, making the tablet smaller while keeping the display the same size. Inside, a new chipset is expected, probably based on the A12 chip found in the iPhone14 and the latest iPad Air. This also likely means that the iPad Pro will be 5G compatible, a feature that will help you get back the lost background on your Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. Apple released the current AirPods Pro in the fall of 2019, but according to some rumors, the next version is expected to arrive in the first half of this year. That's why the spring 2021 event will be the time when new earbuds are likely to debut. Overall, the AirPods Pro2 seems to be a more modest upgrade than the 1st generation. The earbuds are predicted to maintain the same overall features, including Apple's excellent active noise cancellation. But it's also been 2 years since the last update of the large

entry-level AirPods that cut off the stem, leaving the more traditional rounded earphone-shaped AirPods Pro2 in addition to the new chipset we're running the show. While you might expect another small enhancement to Apple's wireless earbuds, the new generation may see more dramatic changes.

Rumors around AirPods3 are contradictory. Some point out that the earbuds are essentially the same as the AirPods Pro, except that they don't have ANC.

Or you can re-brand your earbuds as AirPods Lite. These could be cheaper alternatives to other Apple headphones, similar to Cupertino's approach with the iPhone SE and Apple Watch SE.

When I was 6 years old, my iMac needed an update. But with the debut of a powerful M1 chip, found the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro n, beating the equivalent Intel Cpu, the need for iMac refresh is more pressing.

So we expect iMac2021 to be equipped with either a boosted M1 chip or a new processor from Apple Silicon. It is a must offer the new iMac with significant performance improvements than its predecessor.

The iMac2021 may also have a new look based on the skinny bezel on the iPad Pro and Pro Display XDR. You can also receive a mini LED display like the one rumored to be on the iPad Pro or future Macbook.

Rumor has it that a new 9th generation iPad will appear this year (via MacRumors), replacing the existing iPad2020 with a new chipset and a larger 10.5-inch display, echoing the iPad Air, but a more sophisticated design that holds the Lightning port and home button is also expected.

The rumored iPad mini6 could also make its debut, given that the current model is nearing 3 years old. It will be the same compact size as before, with the exception of a thin bezel, which still allows a large display in the same size chassis.

These trackers are obviously ready for launch for about a year, but we have not yet seen Apple's AirTags officially announced. In theory, nothing will stop Apple from finally showing them off at the Spring 2021 event.

AirTags reportedly works just like other trackers, such as tile. Apple's tags allow you to find the object you attached via the Find My app on your iphone. But they can also offer new features like AR tracking to help you find them more accurately, and the option to find lost items of other AirTags users so that you can help them return.

The Apple TV streaming box is another device that has long been rumored to be ready for an announcement.

The big change we're expecting is new internal hardware - the new A-Series chipset - to make tvOS navigate more agile than ever. We also expect rumors of a new, easy-to-use remote to come true, as it's one of Apple TV's weaknesses.1

And that's all we expect to see at the Apple Spring2021 event. Check back to Tom's guide for all the latest Apple and tech news as we head into the warmer months.
