The BBC documentary Atomic People strives to tell the story of the civilian victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is the exact opposite of the process recently depicted in the Hollywood blockbuster "Oppenheimer."

Chieko Kiriaki, who was 15 years old when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, tells of having to dig a hole in the playground to cremate her classmates with their own hands. Michiko Kodama, now 86, returned home from school with her father on her back and watched the screams of people running from the flames as their clothes burned and their flesh melted.
