For the past few years, when Samsung and Google have launched a new Galaxy or Pixel, both companies have offered pre-order perks to encourage prospective buyers to put money down.

The perks, which often come in the form of the companies' newest wearables, make sense in that they further entice buyers into the ecosystem and encourage them to purchase the phones before the price drops begin. Pixel Buds Pro, and you may remember that they were able to choose between the Pixel Watch 2 or the Pixel Buds Pro.

This time, however, Google seems to be offering something a little less flashy to get people to put money down after the August 13 event.

French site Dealabs has revealed what French stores will be offering to those who purchase a Pixel 9 device by December. Instead, additional physical and cloud-based storage is available.

As previously suggested in a code leak, Pixel 9 buyers will receive six months of Google One AI Premium worth $120, which includes the company's more sophisticated Gemini Advanced AI model as well as 2TB of cloud storage and other benefits; for the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the offer is further increased to 12 months worth $240.

Furthermore, Google is likely to follow Samsung's example and initially offer the 256GB model at the same price as the 128GB one. If the company follows its previous pricing model, it would save about $60.

There also appears to be a trade-in bonus available, with the carrier reportedly offering €150 (~$164) off the Pixel 9 and €200 (~$218) off the Pixel Pro or Pro XL if you surrender your old device at the same time.

This is an interesting move, and undeniably less flashy than the physical gift of a free smartwatch that can be worn immediately. But perhaps enough people already wear smartwatches that a free Pixel Watch 3 is not the incentive it once was.

On the other hand, storage is something everyone needs, and if access to Gemini Advanced makes the new Pixel appear at its best, Google's calculation may be a wise one. Furthermore, it is possible that Google One AI Premium free account holders will become paid account holders after the campaign ends.

Of course, this pre-order information could be wrong, or it could be exclusive to European customers. Perhaps Google is thinking of something different on this side of the Atlantic? We will find out in just 10 days
