The story revolves around the “Battle of the Forest of Toitburg,” in which Germanic tribes clashed with invading armies from the Roman Empire.

It features a conflicted protagonist, Arminius (Laurence Rupp), a Germanic boy who becomes a trusted military advisor to General Varus. Inwardly, however, he is loyal to the Germanic tribes and devises a plan to unite the tribes against the enemy.

“Da Vinci's Demons” is an often overlooked series set in an entirely different era, but this genre-melding historical fantasy crime drama could be your next big movie.

Da Vinci is known as one of the world's most famous artists, and “Da Vinci's Demons” chronicles the dawn of this Italian creator in Renaissance Florence.

As he strives to make a living from his artistic talents, yearns for a fruitful relationship with his father, and rebels against those in power, the series places the young artist at the center of a conflict between the Medici family, the Pazzi family, and the Catholic Church.

If you were drawn in by the Fradeys' journey, “Domina” could be a good drama. Based on the true story of the first Roman empress, Livia Drusilla (Kasia Smutniak), the film depicts the power struggle in Roman society from a woman's perspective.

The series is full of hand-to-hand political gamesmanship, depicting Drusilla's rise to power. Livia Drusilla is exiled after the assassination of Julius Caesar, but returns to Rome ten years later determined to regain what she has lost.

“Spartacus” is a brutal drama from Starz, full of bloody action, that will satisfy those seeking more drama after “Vikings”: satisfying the thirst for drama after “Valhalla.

The series, unsurprisingly, follows the rise of Spartacus, a Thracian slave-turned-gladiator who became a legend in the arena.

Beginning with “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” the show follows the protagonist gladiator from his early days as a Roman soldier to his training at the Capuan gladiatorial school, following in the footsteps of real historical figures as Spartacus leads a slave revolt against the Roman Republic.

Animation-oriented or not, “Viking” fans will definitely find “The Vinland Saga” worth checking out.

The series is an adaptation of Makoto Yukimura's manga of the same name, loosely based on the real life of Torfinn Karlsefni, an Icelandic explorer who explored Vinland (the North American coast) in the early 11th century.

The story revolves around the fictional Thorfinn, who longs to leave Iceland. After suffering a tragedy in his childhood, Thorfinn vows to take the man's life in a duel of honor and sets out on a journey with the killer. But as more blood is spilled on the battlefield, Thorfinn begins to question whether he is doing the right thing.
