Is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus really dead? We're not sure.

Since 2021, Samsung has released three versions of its flagship Galaxy S series of smartphones.

Earlier this week, Android Headlines discovered something interesting in the IMEI (International Mobile Identification Number) database. The site was able to find listings for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (SM-S931B/DS) and Galaxy S25 Ultra (four variants of the SM-S938), but nothing on the Plus model.

This site put two and two together and concluded that Samsung cancelled the S25 Plus altogether. The rationale? Due to poor sales figures and the need to simplify the line.

But if you are a fan of the S Plus series, you might want to refrain from writing angry letters to Samsung. This site may be going in the wrong direction.

First of all, the rationale seems off. The Galaxy S24 Plus reportedly sold 52% more units than the previous model year over year, presumably to close the gap with the Ultra model. With a higher-resolution screen, more RAM, and a larger battery, the model is much more attractive than its predecessor.

Of course, it is possible that it still did not meet Samsung's expectations, or that it was taking sales away from the Galaxy S24 Ultra. But the more likely explanation is that the company did not can the Plus after all and that it is all a misunderstanding.

Dutch website Galaxy Club thinks so. The site asserts that three S25 models will be launched in January as usual, and reports on the company's camera plans for the line. The site claims that development of the device is still underway and that the model number is SM-S936.

If the S25 Plus exists, why isn't it in the IMEI database? 9to5Google has an extremely plausible and simple theory on this: the handset will not be in buyers' hands for at least another seven months, so it has not yet been uploaded It hasn't. In other words, what's the rush?

The original Android Headlines report is correct, and it is possible that Samsung will simplify the S25 line into two handsets - as Galaxy S10e fans will remember, the company has adjusted the line before - but it does not appear in the IMEI database not being there is probably not the conclusive evidence it first appears to be.

We will know more in the coming months, but for now we assume the S25 Plus will appear early next year.
