Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 Suggest Unusual Price Increases - Here's How Much You Could Be Paying

Samsung has stated that it wants to make foldable phones more accessible to more people. But if new rumors about the price of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy z Flip 6 foldable phones prove to be accurate, the phone maker has a strange way of making that happen.

Steve Hemmerstoffer, a leakmonger posting as OnLeaks on X, suggests in information he shared with Smartprix that both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will cost $100 more than the previous model.

Samsung's foldable phones were already quite expensive; the Galaxy Z Fold 5 cost $1,799 when it debuted and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cost $999. That means that now that other phone makers are releasing their own foldable phones to compete with Samsung, the new versions will cost $1,899 and $1,099, respectively.

According to OnLeaks, the prices for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in different configurations are as follows. (He expects the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to come in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB models, while the Flip will have 256GB and 512GB versions.)

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is rumored to be thinner than its predecessor, while the aspect ratio of the cover display should be wider; an upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-chip and the addition of fold-specific Galaxy AI features Even if they are, these don't sound like the kind of changes that would justify a price increase. And that's not even considering the rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may not support Wi-Fi 7. [If Samsung were to also release a lower-priced version of the foldable, as was rumored for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, it might have been easier to accept the higher price of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, plans to offer that particular model appear to be on hold.

"With the weak releases last year, there was a lot of competition, and I don't think a price increase would help bring people back," said John Velasco, phone editor of Tom's Guide, when asked about the price increase rumor.

In contrast, the Z Flip 6 appears to have several upgrades over the Z Fold 6. Besides the new Qualcomm chip, the Z Flip 6 is said to have a larger 4,000 mAh battery. The outer screen is said to be larger, up to 3.9 inches from the Z Flip 5's 3.4 inches.

The new battery may make it thicker than last year's model, but the design appears to be functionally identical. The internal display may have an improved Corning Gorilla Armor, but that's it.

Compared to the Z Fold 6, the Z Flip 6 is expected to have a better main camera, going from a 12MP sensor to 50MP.

We will soon find out how accurate the rumors of that price increase are when Samsung holds its next Galaxy Unpacked event. That could happen as early as July.
