Netflix Teases New Superhero Shows as 'The Boys' Season 4 Comes to Prime Video

"The Boys" Season 4 has just arrived on Prime Video, but that's not the only superhero show airing this month.

There is certainly room for the two shows to coexist, as "Supacell" seems to tell a very different kind of story than "Supacell," one of Prime Video's best.

"Supacell" is the latest project from rapper-turned-filmmaker Rapman, in which everyday, unrelated people in London suddenly find themselves in possession of powerful abilities; according to the Netflix synopsis, "Supacell" is a personal story, as it follows the lives of five people who are forced to live in the city's most dangerous neighborhoods. Across the capital, five citizens unexpectedly acquire superpowers, and they are brought together by one man (Tosin Cole of "Doctor Who") on a mission to save someone special.

It says: "'Supacell' is about a group of five ordinary people who unexpectedly acquire super powers. They have little in common except for one thing: they are black South Londoners. One man, Michael Rasaki, brings them together to save the woman he loves.

This series is the latest in Rapman's series. Prior to that, he created and directed the 2019 musical crime drama Blue Story, which tests the bond between two best friends divided by a street gang war between enemies.

In an interview with SFX Magazine (via sister publication GamesRadar+), creator Rapman explained why he was drawn to the superhero genre and told us what kind of story to expect.

"I think the superhero genre is 100% done to death, but 'Supacell' is different. It's a superpowered drama about ordinary people, real people, not martyrs or world-savers, just people trying to save themselves and their families. That's what normal people would do."

Rapman explained that he was influenced by similar shows like "Heroes" and the British comedy-drama series "Misfits," which tell down-to-earth stories about psychics.

Interested? Supercell will begin streaming on Netflix on Thursday, June 27. Meanwhile, new episodes of "The Boys" Season 4 will be available weekly on Prime Video until the finale on Thursday, July 18.
