Samsung launches a very limited edition sneaker that can control your smartphone - here's how it works

Samsung has surprised us all by announcing a new way to operate your smartphone hands-free. As Sam Mobile points out, the "Shortcut Sneaker" allows any kind of phone operation without actually touching the device. Instead, simply move your foot in a certain direction and the phone will start moving.

Before you get too excited about controlling your phone with your shoe, remember that these are incredibly limited. They are so limited that Samsung only made six pairs to give away to Samsung members in a contest they held in the Netherlands. In other words, they cannot be purchased, at least not from Samsung. The winners can choose to sell them if they wish, although we expect them to go for some insane money since they are so few in existence.

These sneakers can perform a variety of actions on the phone through different movements. There are motion sensors on the soles of the shoes that track their relative position to each other. When certain movements are triggered, a signal is sent to the cell phone and an action is performed.

Roel Van Hoff designed the look and feel of the sneaker and drew inspiration from the Milky Way. Clearly, it fits well with Samsung's branding.

For Samsung Members in the Netherlands, the giveaway is running until July 9, 2024, so if the idea of moonwalking to call your mom sounds appealing, you'll want to enter (let's be honest, moonwalking to call your mom).

If you're not in the area, don't forget to check local sneaker resale sites like StockX and eBay to see if a pair will be available at some point. Just be prepared to open your wallet.

Of course, if these work out, there is always the possibility that Samsung will mass produce these sneakers or something similar. In the meantime, we can move to the Netherlands, sign up for a Samsung Members account, and hope to be one of the lucky winners.
