Netflix is going to be removed from old Sony TVs — see if it's affected

Sony's display may rank among the best TVs, but by 7/24, the Netflix app will no longer exist on some of the 2014 models.

According to Sony's support page, Netflix is launching on some of the 2014 Sony Bravia lineup and says it needs to lobby questions on Netflix. The problem is mainly due to the discontinuation of Sony's support on these older TVs, which makes it difficult for Netflix to maintain its applications with this older software.

This is not the first time Netflix has been kicked out of the platform. According to Sony, some older Sony TVs lost access to streaming apps earlier this year, but many of them were "due to technical limitations."

It's not all doom and gloom, but if you're among the unlucky owners of one of these 2014 Sony TVs, you'll still be able to get back access to Netflix through one of the best streaming devices until support ends on 7/24.

Some 60 TVs are set to lose access to Netflix in the coming months. This is in addition to the long-term support of the previous Sony Set from 2011 to 2013 and almost 33 Blu-ray players. This change will affect all regions, vying for 2014 Sony TVs from across Europe, Asia and North America.

Losing access to 2014Netflix from Sony Bravia TV North America is listed as follows:

Those who lose access to Netflix on these TVs will see support officially announced on July24 Fortunately, there are many alternatives, including google Chromecast4K, Apple TV4K, and Amazon Fire TV Stick4K. All of the aforementioned devices have their own advantages and disadvantages, but they basically bypass the main interface of the TV and allow you to access a large amount of content, apps, etc.

Sony itself contains a handy list of devices supported by Netflix for you to try on the support page. Unfortunately for users on old hardware certainly, it is currently a ray of land, as these products do not get regular software updates and maintenance.

LG is planning on how to configure webOS updates with its newly devised update program, collecting platform updates in a 5-year window. LG came under fire recently to hold webos24 hostage for years on the cusp of launching its new TV lineup.

As both manufacturers and streamers aim to move the platform forward and ensure future-proof, we expect additional older TVs to no longer have access to their favorite apps in the coming years.
