Microsoft Build2024: The Biggest AI Announcement and What It Means

Microsoft's annual event for developers has proven to be a treasure trove of AI-related news and features.

First of all, no announcement will be greater than the new line of Windows PCs designed specifically for ai applications. Microsoft claims that the new Copilot+ Pc will be the fastest and most intelligent Windows Pc ever built.

With one of these devices on your desk, you will be able to use new features such as "Recall", which allows you to ask your PC something about what you have done in the past, you need to recall (wait for it). Can you not remember where you saved one ambiguous file that you thought you would not need again? Just ask your co-pilot + PC.

Microsoft has a new multimodal model, Phi-3-vision.

It's capable of common visual reasoning tasks and can also interpret charts, graphs, and tables.

Users can ask questions about a particular chart, enter an image, or ask open-ended questions about it. Phi-3-vision provides a text response. This AI chatbot is currently available in preview.

Microsoft is also keen to provide a suitable AI assistant, called an agent or co-pilot.

These agents can act independently and must be triggered by events, not just direct text prompts. For example, a co-pilot can be used to assist in onboarding new employees. Once employees are registered, co-pilots can greet them, answer their questions, introduce them to their peers, and set up their first week meetings.

Also, a new wave of browser wars is heading our way as Microsoft reveals that real-time video translations are coming soon to Microsoft Edge. If you're scrolling through a video on a site like FaceboOk or LinkedIn, you can use either dubbing or subtitles to listen to the video in the language of your choice.

First, translations from Spanish to English and from English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian and Spanish will be available. More languages will be added later.

Copy and paste is also getting AI facelift. Microsoft's PowerToys Advanced Paste is an AI extension tool that you can use to paste text from the clipboard into various formats such as JSON and Markdown.

Alternatively, you can paste the text after undergoing any AI conversion, such as summarizing, translating, or changing from an expert to a more casual tone.

All that being said, Windows users shopping for new machines seem to have more to consider as these features come to fruition. You can summarize all the features discussed during the keynote in more detail right here.
