Top of 7 new movies to be streamed this week on Netflix, Hulu and more (5/14-20th)

A fresh blockbuster from the theater has arrived on some of the best streaming services of the week.

The biggest newcomer to the streaming world is "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire", and this set-piece heavy popcorn movie sees two legendary monster teams to stop humanity getting caught in the middle and an even more dangerous threat. Meanwhile, Netflix is offering Sony superhero movies that have spawned dozens of memes, and my favorite movies of 2024 so far are also Premium Video on Demand.

If you're wondering what new movies you can watch at home this week, you've come to the right place. Below we will guide you through all the new releases you don't want to miss. Also check out our sister Guide, which covers the best new TV shows to watch and the top 10 movies you want to watch on Netflix's Top 3.

In the 2021 "Godzilla vs. Kong" sequel, laser-spewing lizards and oversized apes set aside their previous enmity, with previously hidden enemies appearing and 2 Giant Mons These original enemies will use all their power and a little team to stop the frost-spitting Titan from getting out of the hollow Earth and bringing destruction to the surface. This is the first time I've seen a video of a video that I've seen on YouTube.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is exactly what you expect. This is a blockbuster showcase of impressive special effects that are mostly paper over the cracks in the movie's wooden storytelling (the human side of the story is particularly dry this time if you want nearly two hours of skyscraper-sized creatures smashing into each other, have an hour whale with "Godzilla x Kong", just popcorn).

Before he was the maniac ruler of Panem who forced Katniss to compete in the hunger games, Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) was struggling to hide his family's lack of money for fear of losing his status. But when he is given the opportunity to coach the Women's District 12 Tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) in the upcoming 10th Annual Hunger Games, Snow spots an opportunity to regain what he perceived as his rightful spot on the social ladder. "Songbird and Snake Ballad" is a fascinating prequel to the original "Hunger Games" series, exploring how Snow became the tyrannical President we know.

Sony's misguided attempt to build an interconnected universe of Spider-Man villains and supporting characters follows "Madame Web."This comic book movie generated interest from its first trailer, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Its hummy dialogue and Dakota Johnson's expressionless performance made it a kind of online mockery before the film hit theaters, and the final product was billed as Lee

"a suspense-driven thriller," the film tells the origin story of the heroine of the same name. Cassandra Webb (Johnson) is a paramedic who develops the ability to see and change the future after near-death experiences. She soon becomes entangled with three young women (Sidney Sweeney, Isabella Merced and Celeste O'Connor), whose future lies with the villainous Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). If you're a fan of movies that cross into the "so bad, it's good" realm, give this a watch, otherwise it's best to steer clear.

If you suffer from arachnophobia, I give you a fair warning, "Sting" may be the scariest horror movie you can ever watch. Set in an apartment block in New York City, 12-year-old Charlotte watches as she discovers a strange spider egg. The child names the sting of the hatched spider and keeps it as a pet. It turns out that this is a mistake, because the creature quickly swells in size and develops a taste of blood. At first, they are bored by feeding local pets, but soon super-large arachnids develop the taste of human flesh.

Apartment buildings have no escape route because they hunt down the residents of the block, so they become cobwebs and the exits are webbed and closed. Now it rests on Charlotte's shoulders to stop this hungry beast. Characteristic of skin-crawling creatures, "Sting" is a very funny thrill ride that fans of the genre will love as long as they can handle spiders.

In "Challenger," director Luca Guadagnino offers a smart, sexy, riveted romantic drama set in the world of professional tennis, but you can enjoy this stunning movie even if you've never waved a racket in your life . It's definitely a bit safe for this genre, following the predictable structure already found in many sports films, but the powerful filmmaking and the trio of popular young stars make it all feel fresh.

The film begins with a tennis match between former world champion Art Donaldson (Mike Feist) and his former friend and failed professional Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor). Watching is Tashi (Zendaya), an art coach, wife and former genius, whose promising career was destroyed by injuries. Oh, Tashi also happens to be Patrick's ex-girlfriend. And you can probably see where the drama is already coming from.

"He went that way" further attests to the potential of Jacob Elordi's strongman. The beating of the heart made a big wave in his 2023 films "Saltburn" and "Priscilla", and this crime drama did not attract as much attention as those, but "He went that way" It was based on a true account of an encounter with serial killer Larry Lee Lanes and an animal trainer named Dave Pitts. Plus, it's true

Elordi plays Bobby Falls, a ruthless serial killer loosely inspired by the real-life killer Ranes. In this thriller, Falls has a run-in with Jim Goodwin (Zachary Quinto), a minor celebrity trainer who travels the country with his pet chimpanzee. When Goodwin stops picking up hitchhikers, he believes he's doing good deeds for a stranger in need, but what he doesn't know is that the seemingly friendly passenger next to him is a sadistic killer.

Based on the beloved children's book series by Aaron Braby, "Thelma The Unicorn" will feature songs and dances by Brittany Howard, Will Forte, Fred Armisen and Zach Galifianakis, with the whole family sure to ditch.
