Android has finally managed to get a desktop mode comparable to Samsung's DeX with chromeos

That means that you will ever use your phone as a desktop PC without having to buy one of the best Samsung phones is that Google is working on a system that allows users to run ChromeOS from Pixel smartphones to external monitors.

According to the Android Authority, Google held a private event to showcase the chromium OS of Pixel8, an open source version of ChromeOS, on an external monitor. Thanks to the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF), which debuted on Android13, Google seems to have done all this because it allows ChromiumOS to run seamlessly on virtual machines along with android.

Google has made it very clear that it has no plans to merge ChromeOS and Android, despite the fact that ChromeOS has recently been given the ability to run Android apps. So the idea that Android phones can run both operating systems in tandem is interesting.

The Android Authority notes that the project is called "Ferrochrome" and during the demo Chromium is not running on the pixel8 screen, but only on an external monitor. So users can connect a compatible Galaxy smartphone to the display for a desktop experience Like Samsung's DeX The decisive difference is that Ferrochrome includes ChromeOS, whereas DeX is pure Android.

However, ChromeOS can run Android apps, so you should still be able to enjoy some form of Android experience with Ferrochrome. Assume that the virtual machine has the hardware and resources needed to run these apps smoothly.

The question is whether Google will actually launch Ferrochrome as an official Android or Pixel feature. I've heard rumors that Google may be working on the bare-bones desktop experience for android. Google has also added support for external displays to the android14 beta pixel8 and Pixel8Pro, which allow the phone to mirror to its external screen.

This is one of the things we have to be patient with, but hopefully not for long. Google I/O2024 is taking place later today, with the announcement and release of android15 complete. The mobile OS upgrade should also arrive in the coming months, and the perfect startup for well-intentioned desktop mode for pixels and other Android phones
