Google, at the moment, seems to be on a mission to make the Google Messages app a stronger competitor to the likes of Apple's iMessage and Meta's WhatsApp. The company has added some new features, such as adding emoji effect animations and the option to turn your green bubbles blue.

These features are great, but persuading people to upgrade to one of the best Android phones is as much a matter of style and a pair of screenshots posted to X by user Jhow_Kira could be a massive time saver for Android phone users, says Google Media. Message

The post details future options for editing the message after it has been sent.It is possible with both WhatsApp and iMessage. Apparently, some Android users (including this X user) are testing new features at the moment.

To edit a sent message, press and hold the message you want to change, then tap the pencil icon that appears in the top toolbar. The original message can still be accessed from the overflow menu, but this new addition to Google's messages is a great way to imagine the cumulative time that people have saved by quickly fixing typos, clarifying another time, or not needing extra messages to spell someone's name correctly.

The message will be editable up to 15 minutes after it is sent, and both the sender and receiver need to have message editing capabilities to work. Sadly, it's not clear exactly when this feature will be introduced to Google Messages, but given that iMessage has the same feature since 2022 iOS16, I hope Google won't hang up.

Of course, there is a small problem with Google I/O happening today, May 14, which could potentially provide some details about this new feature. The event kicks off at 1pm ET/10am PT/6pm BST and can be viewed along with Google's live feed of I/O keynote.
