The Gemini1.5Pro update comes with a new app and live conversation feature

Google I/O is still alive. For the latest news, visit the Google I/O2024 live blog.

Google I/O has kicked off with tons of AI news, but perhaps the most exciting is the huge Gemini 1.5Pro update. Google's latest model aims to compete with the exciting new features that OpenAI showed off at the small event of 5/13.

First of all, it will only be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers in 150 countries and 35+ languages, but it seems like it might be cool enough to be worth paying for.

The popular AI model has acquired a dedicated Gemini app, which will allow all new features (and older features) to be available in 1 convenient location. Google also says the new features will also work with Gemini on the web, so you can try out the new goodies wherever you use them. Gemini1.5Pro can handle up to 1 hour of video content, a codebase containing more than 30,000 lines of code and 1,500 pages of documents. This will be possible through the long context window of the new Gemini app, which Google describes as "the longest of the widely available consumer chatbots in the world."

The new feature provides integration with Google Drive for file analysis and better image understanding. Gemini Live, the Gemini Advanced subscriber feature, is the most exciting part of Gemini1.5Pro, and the part that seems to have adopted GPT-4o.According to the demo, it looks and feels more like talking to other people than an AI assistant.

For example, Google discussed preparing for job interviews and rehearsing important speeches. Gemini talks to your potential employers and public speaking tips to calm your nerves before you step up to the podium"

Gems is another interesting feature that comes to the AI service. In essence, these are customized versions of Gemini to suit your needs. Google suggests that potential users give Gem roles such as gym buddy, sous chef, coding partner, and creative writing guide to get specific help when they need it.

Finally, Google is adding more integration with its own apps. For example, I have deployed a YouTube Music extension for Gemini, and I can find music when I mention a poem or an artist and don't know the song title.
