Samsung Galaxy S25 chipset could be way more efficient — but there is a catch

We can see the Samsung Galaxy S25 boasts improved power efficiency, thanks to its new chipset, at least in some markets

This efficiency is being used in the Galaxy S25 model equipped with Samsung's unique gate all-around process (more on below). It has been reported that this is due to Exynos2500 silicon. This manufacturing method allows the chips built on it to "limit energy leakage and increase the drive current.""Low energy leakage is an easy-to-understand advantage, but the latter point refers to how much power is being sent to the components in the chip, which affects speed and performance.

Importantly, Gate-All-Around is also a state-of-the-art 3nm process, which has a transistor of the same size as the Snapdragon 8GEN4 has, meaning that the Apple A15pro chip from the iPhone17Pro is already using it. We hope that this will further guarantee the power and efficiency of the new Exynos chip. The Galaxy S25 series is thought to use a combination of Samsung's Exynos2500 chipset and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8GEN4 chip, but it depends on where you buy it because of a complex business deal Samsung made many years ago.

With the exception of the Galaxy S23 series, which had Snapdragon chips all over the world, the annual Galaxy S phones Snapdragon edition on the U.S. market was a better version in terms of power and efficiency. This year's Galaxy S2400 model with Exynos24 has proven to be quite close to its sibling running Snapdragon 8GEN3, but buyers in Europe and many other regions have definitely received inferior products compared to Americans.

However, if the new Exynos boasts significant improvements in power efficiency, even if the gap in computing power between Exynos and Snapdragon remains, it will ultimately give global users an advantage over the United States. And as there are rumors of a sudden overclocking effort to improve the performance of the 8Gen4 compared to Apple's new M4-powered iPad Pro, it seems likely that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, including the series top Samsung Galaxy S25Ultra, will probably not arrive until at least 2025/1. But the rumour mill is still churning out a lot of claims about these phones, like the Ultra's lack of a 3x telephoto camera, or the generative AI-enhanced Bixby, which can be read in the rumour hub linked above.
