Apple Pencil 3 could be a major upgrade before the launch of the new iPad.

Next week is Apple's "Let Loose" event, where at least three new iPads (the iPad Pro and a larger version of the iPad Air) are expected to be announced. These iPads are also expected to be unveiled along with new accessories, including the Apple Pencil 3 stylus, and now Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed some of the new upgrades we might see.

In the latest issue of his newsletter, Power On, Gurman claims that the new Apple Pencil should include tactile feedback. This would be a first for an Apple stylus, but Garman did not go into further detail.

It is unclear how Apple intends to employ tactile feedback, but it should help add a bit more realism to using the stylus. Currently, using many styluses is a very strange experience. You are holding a piece of plastic and writing on a smooth glass screen, but you don't get the tactile experience of using a pen or pencil on paper.

Any tactile feedback to help simulate that would give the Apple Pencil 3 a huge bonus over its predecessor. Especially if there is feedback that tries to simulate different real-world uses, such as placing the pen on paper or using art supplies.

The iPadOS code also suggests that the Apple Pencil 3 will support new gestures, especially the new "squeeze" feature. We are not sure how it works, if it is more than detecting hand pressure, or even what function each squeeze triggers.

It is speculated that squeezing the Apple Pencil 3 will open a "contextual menu" that allows users to quickly perform certain actions, such as adding shapes, stickers, or text to the canvas. However, it is not a complete cldar.

It is also not clear if new gestures will be added. But even a single squeeze gesture would add a lot of functionality to the stylus.

It is also rumored that the new Apple Pencil may offer interchangeable magnetic tips, depending on the finesse you need; there are also reports that the Apple Pencil 3 may be compatible with the Apple Vision Pro in the near future.

We will have to wait for the Let Loose event for more details. Until then, check out our iPad Pro 2024 and iPad Air 2024 hubs.
