Microsoft has announced plans to launch Xbox Game Pass in early May. This year's list features a gem of a title that will likely rank on the Xbox Series X best games list. Also, a title about an adorable kitten wreaking havoc ranks among my most anticipated games of 2024. [Its name is "Little Kitty, Big City. Its situation of playing as a mischievous cat in a cozy open-world playground had me hooked from the first trailer. Plus, you can dress the cat in a little hat! How cute!

"Explore the city, make new friends with stray animals, wear fun hats, and leave no small amount of mess behind you. After all, isn't that what cats do best? said Xbox in a press release. Did I mention the hats? Because I am very excited about hats.

The rest of the lineup is solid, although the focus on cats is fairly small. The PC and Xbox versions of Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are also available on Game Pass via EA Play.

Have a Nice Death, a 2D action roguelike in which you play an overworked reaper, is available today (April 30) on Xbox Game Pass. I played it in Early Access and found it to be a punishing but satisfying challenge. The combat is very polished, the soundtrack is an endless stream of charming tunes, and the hand-drawn art style is a nice blend of cutesy design and goth aesthetics.

Next up is "Tomb Raider," which will be released on May 2: The acclaimed reboot of the Lara Croft-led action-adventure franchise reimagined for next-generation consoles like the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Released in 2017, "Kona" is a sequel to Kona, a first-person narrative game set in a rural mining village in rural northern Canada in 1970, plagued by a strange fog that envelops the region.

On May 14, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will return to Game Pass ahead of its remake on next-generation consoles. Conceived and directed by the talented Josef Fares, creator of the award-winning co-op puzzler It Takes Two, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: A Tale of Two Sons is one of the most compelling indie adventure of the 2010s.
