The prestige drama "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," starring Harvey Keitel, tells the story of Lale Sokolov and Gita Furmanova, who fell in love in the infamous concentration camp and supported each other through the harsh conditions.

"The Tattooist of Auschwitz" will premiere in the US, UK, and Australia on Thursday, May 2.

Born Ludwig Eisenberg, Lale Sokolov was captured by the Nazis and interned at Auschwitz in 1942. There he could never have imagined that he would meet his lifelong companion.

The six-part novel is based on the highly controversial novel of the same name written by Heather Morris after a series of conversations with Laleh following Gita's death in 2003.

Morris's novel became a worldwide hit, but the Auschwitz Memorial Research Center feels compelled to emphasize that despite being presented as a work of fact, the plot is rife with "many errors, factually inconsistent information, exaggerations, misinterpretations and understatements." .
