After an exciting first few months of the year, which were dominated by exciting new releases, May 2024 is relatively light. That is not to say, however, that there are no new games worth noting. Xbox users are not to be outdone, as the Nintendo Switch

, a home console/portable hybrid, will be releasing two high-profile titles, including a gorgeous remake of the GameCube classic. The long-awaited sequel, Hellblade, will finally be released this month, almost four years after it was first announced.

If you've settled down from your video game hoarding and want to dive into some new software this month, here are some of the biggest new titles coming out in the next few weeks.

The quiet "Endless Ocean" series returns this month after more than a decade. Endless Ocean Luminous" is exclusive to Nintendo Switch and puts players in the role of a scuba diver exploring the "Veiled Sea," a vast expanse of ocean. It is your job to chart the ocean and find and document marine life, including mythical creatures such as Mothasurus. You can also explore undersea structures such as shipwrecks and long-lost temples.

"Luminous" is the third in the series and brings new elements to the franchise, such as procedurally generated levels, so that no two dives are the same. In addition, there is a big focus on online this time around, allowing groups of up to 30 people to explore the ocean together and share their findings (and, of course, communicate using emotes). Players looking for a gripping storyline and challenging gameplay may be missing out, but if you're looking for a more Zen-like experience, Endless Ocean Luminous is well worth your time.

The name Prison Architect 2 says almost everything you need to know about this management simulation. Your job is to build a maximum security prison and oversee the smooth running of the prison as governor. You need to make sure that each prisoner's needs are met, that all facilities are run efficiently, and that you have a well-trained staff. In addition, it is essential to minimize jailbreaks.

This sequel to the 2012 original builds on the foundation of its predecessor in several significant ways. The most notable change is the switch from a top-down 2D perspective to full 3D visuals. This makes the prison feel more realistic, but maintains the game's cartoonish tone. Another major new element is the ability to build multi-floor prisons. Players once again become Senua and embark on a brutal journey through the harsh landscape of Viking-era Iceland. Your goal is to free the victims of tyranny, but Senua must overcome her own inner demons to help those around her. While its predecessor "Hellbade" offered stunning visuals and groundbreaking sound design, this sequel seems to have gone even further, taking full advantage of the power of the Xbox Series X.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is one of the most famous and beloved games on the iconic Nintendo GameCube console, and to celebrate its 20th anniversary, this RPG classic has been completely remade for the Switch. The game is now available on the Switch. This new version offers essentially the same Paper Mario experience, but with a fresh coat of visuals and a few design tweaks.

For those who missed out on the original version back in the GameCube days, "The Thousand Year Door" is the second installment in the cult favorite "Paper Mario" series. After Princess Peach is kidnapped by the alien X-Notes, the plumber embarks on a new adventure in the world of paper crafting. It's a fun mix of engaging turn-based battles, challenging exploration, and very funny writing. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is considered by many players to be the best in the series, and this remake will prove why.
