There has been a real stir over whether Nvidia will release a new next-generation Blackwell (GeForce RTX 5000) graphics card this year. According to the latest rumors, the GeForce RTX 5090 for desktops will be available this year.

YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead, first spotted on Notebookcheck, has sources that Nvidia is working hard on a new line of desktop and laptop GPUs, which could be released as early as Q4 2024. revealed. However, even that source is unsure when each card will be released and whether some cards will be delayed to 2025.

In a video posted this week, Moore's Law claims that the RTX 5090 will be released in early Q4 2024, which suggests it could ship around October. However, one of his sources stated that the GeForce RTX 5000 laptop GPU is "a month or two behind schedule" and may not see a laptop card until 2025.

This is quite plausible, given that Nvidia has similarly staggered rollouts of new GPUs in the past. If this is the same rollout as when Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 4000 GPU, we won't see laptop versions of these rumored GeForce RTX 5000 graphics cards until March or April 2025.

These GPUs could be unveiled at the Computex event, a huge annual computer exhibition held in Taipei, Taiwan. This year's event will be held on June 3. Leaked sources also indicate that the high-end laptop and desktop GeForce RTX 5000 GPUs will feature GDDR7 memory and PCIe Gen 5 support, so they could offer significant performance. In layman's terms, they could be considerably faster and more efficient than the RTX 4000 series.

However, we have yet to hear anything about how Nvidia will handle power consumption and heat; the RTX 4000 chips are considered quite power efficient, and hopefully the company can keep it that way with this new GPU.

Of course, with Nvidia's big focus on AI, the 5090 and 5080 chips could be delayed to 2025; GPU makers are downplaying NPUs (Neural Processing Units) are being deemphasized in favor of GPUs capable of deeper AI learning. This focus on AI could easily distract from the race to bring the next generation of gaming GPUs to the world.
