This week is shaping up to be a somewhat subdued week for new movie releases, but there are still some exciting films on the best streaming services.

"Anyone But You" is coming to Netflix this week. This glossy romantic comedy stars two Hollywood up-and-comers, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, and is a bit of a throwback to the type of films that dominated the film industry in the early 2000s. The Big Red Streamer also delivers a controversial erotic thriller featuring another popular actor, Jenna Ortega. In addition, a number of major films will appear on premium streaming over the next few days, including Dev Patel's "Monkey Man."

"Everybody But You" is a buzzy romantic comedy that once dominated Hollywood but has been more and more limited to streaming services in recent years. So while the film's box office success at the end of 2023 was very refreshing, if you missed "Anyone But You" in theaters, now is your chance to enjoy it at home.

Starring Sidney Sweeney and Glen Powell, two irrepressibly charming leading men, the romantic comedy begins, as it does in many films, with a falling out. Bo (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) enjoy an enchanting first date, but a misunderstanding ruins their budding romance. They are reunited at a destination wedding, but incessant bickering threatens to ruin the occasion, and the appearance of their respective exes further complicates matters. Naturally, Bo and Ben make the only logical decision and decide to pretend to be a couple for the weekend. They never expected the sparks to really fly. ......

"Monkey Man" is the directorial debut of Dev Patel, a multi-talented man who not only commands behind the camera but also stars in this violent revenge thriller. Patel plays the unnamed protagonist, who is moonlighting as a fighter in an underground fighting ring. However, he is still haunted by childhood trauma and is bent on revenge against the city's elite leaders who continue to victimize the poor and powerless.

More than "John Wick in Mumbai" (which has received some scathing reviews), "Monkey Man" is an explosive and very violent action thriller, with a strong performance by Patel adding an emotional element. But while the character dramas are engaging, it is the tightly choreographed fight scenes that steal the show. Patel proves himself quite adept at assembling dynamic, memorable, and above all, highly original action scenes. Monkey Man is a true gem."

"Miller's Girl" co-stars Jenna Ortega (star of the popular Netflix series "Wednesday") and Martin Freeman in an erotic thriller that asks some very uncomfortable questions. Ortega plays 18-year-old Cairo Sweet, who is finishing his senior year of high school. He takes a creative writing class taught by writer Jonathan Miller (Freeman), who struggles to write something new, but as the boundaries between teacher and student blur, the class projects become increasingly inappropriate.

"Miller's Girl" has been controversial since its first trailer was released. The large age difference between the two leads and the subject matter of a forbidden affair naturally caused controversy. Critics were not particularly favorable to the thriller either, giving it a low 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ortega's strong presence makes up for its weaknesses. Expectations are moderate.

Shudder, a streaming service specializing in horror, is on a bit of a hot streak right now. Last week, it delivered "Late Night with the Devil. The film is a refreshing found footage horror that received critical acclaim when it opened in theaters last month. And the horror film streamer follows up that excellent work by delivering "Infested," which is a terrifyingly funny, gruesome, and unsettling film that is a perfect example of the kind of horror film that is so popular with critics. Critics are equally enthused about the spooky film, which currently holds a very high score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film's protagonist is Caleb (Theo Christine), a lonely man on the verge of turning 30. He is currently in a family quarrel with his sister over an inheritance and is also estranged from his best friend. Fascinated by exotic animals, Caleb brings home a poisonous spider (as you would too), but it soon escapes. The creepy-crawlies soon multiply, turning Caleb's apartment into a giant spider's web, and a battle for survival ensues.

Director Rose Glass made a hell of an impression with her 2019 directorial debut Saint Maude. Now, the British director returns with the long-awaited sequel Love Lies Bleeding. This over-the-top film is no less impressive, as it is a romantic-at-heart thriller that is a departure from the psycho-horror of his first feature film. Glass has assembled a strong cast, including Kristen Stewart, Katie O'Brian, Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, Dave Franco, and Ed Harris.

The film focuses on the relationship between a reclusive gym manager named Lou (Stewart) and an up-and-coming bodybuilder named Jackie (O'Brian). Jackie was supposed to be just passing through on her way to Las Vegas to realize her dream. However, she also finds him attractive and gets a little sidetracked. While Lou and Jackie grow closer, their romance brings unexpected violence as Lou's criminal family tries to undermine them both.
