This M. Night Shyamalan film has become my most anticipated thriller of the summer.

One of my greatest passions is live music. Hardly a week goes by that I don't go to a concert or drain my bank account for gig tickets, so when I learned that M. Night Shyamalan's new thriller was set in a sold-out concert arena, I was immediately inspired to reserve a seat at the movie theater.

The film is titled "The Trap." The thriller is about "a father and his teenage daughter who attend a pop concert where they find themselves at the center of a dark and sinister event." That brief synopsis alone had me completely on board, but when the first trailer was released last week, I was even more excited about the upcoming film.

In "Trap," Josh Hartnett plays the father, but the twist--and it's a Shyamalan film, so of course there's a twist--is that this seemingly everyday father is actually a notorious serial killer known as "The Butcher," and the police are using the concert as a trap to catch him. That the police are using the concert as a trap to catch him. This is one of the most compelling movie hooks I've ever heard.

I've always thought that the concert setting is perfect for a thriller, and I'm very happy to see a film set in a space where I've personally spent a lot of time. I'm looking forward to seeing how Shyamalan uses this unique location to draw out as much tension as possible, and I'm curious to see if there will be a second twist (it's Shyamalan's movie, so there will probably be another twist). The Trap may be the movie I've always wanted to see."

There are already a number of movies that have caught my eye this summer, including "Deadpool & Wolverine" and "Alien: Romulus," but the premiere of "Trap" will easily be among them, and I can't wait for its release on August 9, 2024.

While I have high hopes for "Trap," I have tempered my expectations and will approach the film with some degree of caution. For the record, I have been disappointed by Shyamalan many times in the past and no longer have complete faith in the filmmaker.

"Trap" is not the first time I have heard the basic story outline for Shyamalan's next film and thought it was amazing. This also happened in 2021's "Old," in which tourists stranded on a beach where time moves at an unusually fast pace begin to age in a matter of minutes. A killer idea for a thriller, but the final presentation left me unsatisfied, and I felt the same way about 2023's "Knocking at the Shack." Interesting set-up, but weak execution.

Furthermore, Shyamalan's filmography is filled with flops, from legendary flops like "The Happening" and "The Last Airbender" to more recent underwhelming efforts like "Glass." I didn't like "Split" much either, but that film has its fans, so my negative view seems rather out there. Based on the above, I can say that Shyamalan is not a director with a track record that inspires confidence in me.

[16] However, I'm a stickler for second chances (in this case, more like the director's eighth or ninth chance), and Shyamalan has proven in the past that when everything is perfectly in sync, he can make a super watchable thriller. Let's hope "Trap" is no different.
