"Nightcrawler," off to a strong start, follows Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), a man who records dangerous crimes and then provides the footage to a local TV station for a fee. Determined to get the best shot for higher recognition, Louis uses unethical filming methods such as tampering with crime scenes and trespassing on private property. Gyllenhaal plays both con man and sociopath with aplomb, and his performance makes this thriller impossible to take your eyes off of for even a moment.

Classic mystery and thriller films deserve revisiting, one of which is "Silence of the Lambs." The story focuses on Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), an FBI agent in training who is tasked with interviewing a cannibalistic serial killer named Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). The assignment is to learn more about "Buffalo Bill," another serial killer who has been abducting women, and Lecter provides clues and may help Sterling track down the psychopath. Of course, getting help from a serial killer would not be so easy.

If you like fun mystery thrillers that don't delve into horror, Knives Out should be your next stop. The comedy film focuses on Marta (Ana de Armas), a nurse who thinks she accidentally killed wealthy novelist Harlan (Christopher Plummer) when she mixed a lethal dose of morphine in his medicine. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) works with Marta on the case and hides evidence in an attempt to complete the investigation. But every murder case has a backstory, and Blanc leaves no stone unturned in his quest to discover the truth.

Another intense psycho-thriller to add to your list is Get Out. Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) travels to New York City to meet his girlfriend's family, but this weekend trip does not go as planned. Chris notices that his parents are acting strangely and making casually racist remarks. As Chris spends time with his girlfriend and her family, he realizes that there is more going on and soon becomes involved in something incredibly sinister.

"Gravity" takes the thriller genre seriously by keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout. It also focuses on the mysteries of space and how two astronauts become desperate to return home after their shuttle is destroyed. Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) must work together to find their way home after being stranded in space. The film brilliantly highlights themes of hope, spirituality, human evolution, and the determination to survive, and kept my attention throughout.

The family's grief soon turns to horror when their daughter Alice (Talia Zucker) accidentally drowns. Overwhelmed by the loss, strange phenomena occur in the house and they decide to hire a parapsychologist. The investigation takes them to the mysterious Lake Mungo, where Alice drowned, and reveals disturbing truths about her hidden life and what she had not told her family before her death - the possibility of paranormal activity.

"Gangs, Cops, and Demons" is a fast-paced and exciting crime thriller led by two great performances. Local detective Jeong Tae-seok (Kim Mu-yul) is on the trail of a sadistic serial killer known simply as "K." But his investigation takes a turn when crime boss Jang Dong-su (Dong Lee) becomes K's only surviving victim, and the two form an unlikely partnership and work together to stop the cycle of heinous crime that has been ravaging the city.
