Stardew Valley" creator discusses the console release date for the version 1.6 major update.

A new patch for the hit cozy farming sim "Stardew Valley" was released this week, adding small bug fixes and translation changes to the major update to version 1.6 that was released on PC last month. But if you've been waiting for the Nintendo Switch version, it may be a while yet.

This week, "Stardew Valley" creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone reassured fans on X (formerly Twitter) that the console and mobile ports are still underway. He further thanked fans for their continued patience. While there is no specific release date yet for version 1.6 on one of the best handheld consoles, Barone previously said that the goal is to release it "as soon as possible."

The latest update for PC (version 1.6.6.) includes balance and gameplay changes, translation changes, several mod-related patches, and bug fixes. This includes a fix for an issue with the Chinese translation that has been a game-breaker for some Stardew Valley players. One small but significant tweak has the Stardew Valley community awash in social media with excitement and enough puns to shake a stick around. The official 1.6.6 patch notes read, "Bee houses now work with flowers in pots in the garden."

This may not sound like a big deal at first glance, but it solves a recurring headache for players trying to maximize profits and perfect their farm layout. Planting well-grown flowers near the bees' homes affects the type of honey produced and increases the selling price of the product. Until this update, however, flowers had to be planted in the ground within 5 tiles of the bees' homes to be effective, taking up valuable land. Now, flowers can be planted in pots and placed near the bee house, and flower honey can be made anywhere. The result is more arable land that can be used to grow more profitable crops.

Version 1.6, one of the most significant updates to "Stardew Valley" to date, features a new farm layout, an RPG-inspired skill system, new festivals and events, additional weather events, more pet types, 40 new mine layouts, and much more. Because of the sheer volume of content, Barone suggests that fans should start a new save file "to see everything in context." Stardew Valley is one of the top contenders for our list of best Nintendo Switch games."
