Top 9 New Shows Available This Week on Netflix, Hulu, TV and More (April 29-May 5)

As the calendar turns the page, more new shows premiere this week on Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services, as well as on broadcast and cable television.

This week's lineup of new shows is jam-packed with returning films and new series. Hacks, Welcome to Wrexham, Selling the OC, and Acapulco all enter their third seasons. Meanwhile, the spy thriller "The Veil" starring Elisabeth Moss and the Tudor mystery drama "Shardlake" make their debuts. Here are the top new shows to check out this week.

Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men," "The Handmaid's Tale") plays British secret agent Imogen Salter. Steven Knight, creator of "Peaky Blinders," puts his own spin on a familiar element of spy drama in a game of deception between Imogen and a French-Algerian woman (Yumna Marwan) who may be the dangerous leader of a breakaway ISIS faction. Imogen must determine the identity and motives of the woman in order to prevent a possible large-scale terrorist attack while dealing with her own damaged past. - JB

Emmy-nominated David Letterman's interview show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" returns with a one-off special featuring John Mulaney. In this episode, filmed at the latter's Chicago high school, Letterman and Mulaney discuss fatherhood, addiction, and stand-up comedy. This is the first "My Next Guest" episode since December 2022, when Letterman sat down with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The special precedes a six-episode live variety series by Mulaney (see below) scheduled to air on Netflix later this week. - KW

Eugenio Derbez's bilingual period comedy returns with more adventures of old Maximo (Derbez) and his younger self (Enrique Allison). In the present day, Maximo revisits a Las Colinas he no longer recognizes; in 1985, young Maximo continues to climb the ladder of success, but his accent threatens the relationships he has worked so hard to build. For both men, it is time to reconcile past mistakes and make exciting new beginnings. - KW

Premieres Wednesday, May 1 at 12 a.m. ET on Apple TV Plus

This whodunit adventure is based on the historical mystery novel by C. J. Sansom and is set in the 16th century reign of King Henry VIII. As monasteries are being dissolved in various places, lawyer Matthew Shardlake (Arthur Hughes) is sent by Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) to investigate the murder of a commissioner at a monastery in the remote town of Scarnsay. With Cromwell's own political survival in jeopardy, Shardlake and his associate Jack Barrack (Anthony Boyle) must solve the murder and close the convent. - KW

Veteran comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and up-and-coming comedy writer Eva Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) are the third in this comedy series They remain vigilant friends and collaborators in the season. Deborah is making a comeback, thanks in part to the material she and Ava have developed together, and Ava is trying to find a way to capitalize on her own ideas. But the chemistry between the two stars is a major attraction of Hacks. - JB

Since "Big Little Lies" first aired in 2017, veteran TV writer/producer David E. Kelley has been working on the familiar network TV procedural drama for decades. After working on the series, he is making a successful comeback by reinventing himself as a writer of high-profile prestige miniseries. Kelly's latest project, adapted from the novel by the late Tom Wolfe, stars Jeff Daniels in the lead role and teams him with other big-name actors. Regina King follows up her award-winning feature film "Miami Nights" by directing three of the six episodes of this limited series about an Atlanta real estate magnate (Daniels) facing personal and professional peril. Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, and Bill Camp co-star. - JB

After 15 long and disappointing seasons in the National League, Wrexham AFC has finally been promoted back to the English Football League. However, this is no time to rest on their laurels. For the team, owners Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds, and their dedicated supporters, the stakes are only getting higher. Nevertheless, an injury or setback could undo all the hard work that has been done. Meanwhile, the women's team, undefeated and promoted, has been dominant. - KW

There's plenty of sun and shade in the fresh installment of the real estate reality series. The "Selling the Sunset" spinoff returns with more properties and drama for the agents of the Oppenheim Group. Alex Hall and Tyler Stanaland's romance may have a breakup before it begins. Sean Palmieri finds himself in a feud with his colleagues. And new agent Alexandra Harper is also feeling the heat. - KW

The title of this six-episode live variety series by comedian John Mulaney is not much of an exaggeration; Mulaney is the author of several Netflix standup specials and the children's variety special "John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch," and he intends to use that large group of funny people to put on a show that will showcase his own unique comedic sensibility. The specific format of the show has not yet been revealed, but expect sketches, interviews, and other comedy set pieces by Mulaney and his all-star guests. - JB
