iPad Pro 2024, possible price increase - what we know

The iPad Pro 2024 is expected to feature several significant upgrades, the most exciting of which is a rumored upgrade from LCD screens to OLEDs. Unfortunately, these upgrades may come at a premium. Literally, Bloomberg's Mark Garman confirms the price increase rumors.

Garman has not stated what the price of the new iPad Pro will be, only that it will be higher than the price paid for the existing model. For reference, the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $799 and the 12.9-inch model starts at $1,099. At the very least, these new models should cost $100 more, but could be higher.

Along with the new OLED display, these new iPad Pros are also expected to feature Apple's M3 chipset, a new side-facing front camera, an upgraded Magic Keyboard, and possibly Apple Pencil 3. All of these would be huge advantages if you intend to use the iPad Pro as a productivity device. Frankly, given the price, it would be a waste of money otherwise.

Garman notes that the switch to OLEDs was a challenge due to the increased complexity of manufacturing. Garman claims that these issues were the reason the iPad Pro 2024 was not released in March along with the MacBook Air M3 as originally anticipated. Garman previously stated that these iPads could be released in early May, but has now narrowed that possibility to the week of May 6.

If you're not up for the iPad Pro price hike, it seems there are other options: the iPad Air is also expected to be refreshed next month, and there are rumors of a larger 12.9-inch model with an undetermined price. If you want a large-screen iPad and can tolerate it without the OLED and other enhancements, that may be an option.

Garman has also heard rumors of a refreshed iPad mini and an entry-level iPad. However, these are not likely to appear until the end of the year at the earliest, and they are not likely to be much of an upgrade. iPad mini 7 may only have a basic processor upgrade, and the entry-level iPad is expected to be a cost-reduced version of the iPad 10th generation, which was released in 2022. It is expected to be a cost-reduced version.

There are also rumors of a foldable iPad, which Gurman says is still in its early stages, but we can't imagine it will be unbearably expensive. This means that those who want to spend money on an iPad will have to wait for the new iPad Pro to arrive. For the latest news and updates, see our iPad Pro 2024 and iPad Air 2024 hubs.
