Windows 11 "Moment 5" Update Released - This is the Biggest Upgrade

Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 update that introduces a number of features and fixes; users enrolled in the Windows Insider program have had access to these features since late February 2024, but with this update all Windows 11 users. This is a mandatory update as it is part of the April cumulative update.

Along with a large number of security fixes and updates, several key features have been updated. Here are all the new features of the Windows 11 "Moment 5" update.

Windows 11 now supports voice access features on multiple displays, including numbers and grid overlays. If you are using a grid overlay on one screen, you can now quickly switch to another display. Previously, this was only possible on the primary display. In addition, the "Mouse Grid" command can be used to quickly move the mouse to a specific point on the display. Finally, files, apps, and documents can now be moved between displays using the drag-and-drop feature.

This update also introduces voice shortcuts and custom commands. This allows you to create your own commands in any of the supported English dialects. the command "show voice shortcuts" (show voice shortcuts) opens the voice shortcuts page where you can create new shortcuts. You can go to the command help page or use the "show voice shortcuts" voice command to see all voice shortcuts you have created.

Narrator has 10 natural sounds that you can preview before downloading. The voices use on-device text-to-speech and will work without an Internet connection once downloaded. However, an Internet connection is required to preview the audio.

Updates to Narrator include improved detection of text in images (including handwriting) and improved image descriptions; Narrator will now announce when it detects a Microsoft Word bookmark or draft. You can also now use voice access to open apps, dictate text, and manipulate on-screen elements. Additionally, you can command Narrator to speak faster, read the next line, etc., using your voice.

This update changes the way apps appear in the Windows Share window. Depending on which account you are signed in with, different apps will appear in the "Shared in Use" section. This is useful, for example, if you are switching between your company Microsoft account and your personal account.

Another cool feature is that you can now share to WhatsApp in the "Share" section; if you use WhatsApp, this is very useful, as it allows you to share to your personal account, which is a great feature if you are using WhatsApp.

Share Nearby allows you to share files with other devices wirelessly. Microsoft has improved the transfer speed of this feature to speed up file transfers. This feature, which previously worked only on private networks, now works on both public and private networks.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are now automatically turned on when "Share Nearby" is enabled in the settings. You can also give the device a different name to identify it when sharing.

The Cast feature allows you to wirelessly send content on your device's screen to a nearby PC, TV, or other external display. This feature has been updated to make your device more discoverable. Also, the Cast flyout menu in Quick Settings can help you find nearby devices to cast to, fix connections, etc.

Snap Layouts is a handy feature that allows you to quickly snap apps and windows on your desktop into the arrangement you want. This latest Windows update adds new layout suggestions, which may be helpful if you have felt limited by the choices that were previously available.
