Google's Android Security Update April 2024 has been released and includes several important patches. It also includes a fix for a bug that prevented the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro cameras from working properly.

According to the latest Android Security Bulletin and Pixel Update Bulletin, several highly critical security patches and one Pixel-specific critical patch are addressed in the latest update.

Outside of the security patches, however, there are several camera improvements, including one that addresses an issue in Pixel 8 that prevents access to automatic exposure adjustment after the user taps the screen to focus the image.

There are also fixes for two issues: the first is camera stability when switching between different zooms under certain conditions, which affects Google Pixel 6 and later models. The second is a black halo artifact in the viewfinder when transitioning from photo mode to video mode at 1x zoom, which affects both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

The April security patch will roll out to all Pixel models after Google Pixel 5a. While not as essential as the March update, which brought users expanded Circle to Search functionality and 10-bit HDR video options, these new security and bug patches serve an important purpose and to benefit from better security, it is important to update your devices as soon as possible.

It should also be noted that the April update for the Pixel Watch has also been released.

This uses vibration to inform users of the time, with two different vibration settings to choose from, called "Digits" and "Terse". The former provides more accurate time keeping, updated by the minute, while the latter vibrates in 15-minute increments.
