April rain may bring May flowers, but it also brings lots of great new movies to watch. But with so many great choices on the best streaming services, including Netflix and Max, narrowing down which ones are worth your time is no mean feat. [That's why Tom's Guide has rounded up the best movies to kick off your weekend. For starters, the 2024 Best Picture nominee "Zone of Interest" is on Max this week. Disney Plus adds Mouse's latest animated musical "Wish," while Peacock offers Blumhouse's latest horror film "Night Swim." Meanwhile, Netflix will stream the long-awaited sequel to the iconic '90s film "Space Jam." And then there's "Scoop," a new biographical drama based on Prince Andreu's interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, which caused a furor when he stubbornly defended his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Coming up on Max this month is the poignant World War II historical drama "Zone of Interest," which won three Academy Awards this year, including Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.

In the literal shadow of the Auschwitz concentration camp run by Rudolph, a German couple lives within a perfect wall.

The film does not turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany against the Jews, but it is more background noise than a starring role. The real horror comes from observing the ordinary lives carved out by a family that sees their position in the Holocaust as merely a means to a better life.

If you're in the mood for something a little more family-friendly. In "Wish," Ariana DeBose shines as Asha, a 17-year-old girl who wishes upon a star to save the fictional Kingdom of Rosas on a Mediterranean island from impending doom. The star turns into an anthropomorphic ball of light. This is a tribute to the bouncing ball movement, one of the components of animation. The star does not speak, but the stellar voice cast certainly does, including Chris Pine as the smooth-talking villain King Magnifico, Alan Tudyk as Asha's animal sidekick, and Angelique Cabral as the Queen of Rosas.

"Welcome to the Jam," a sequel to the iconic '90s film "Space Jam" will be released in 2021, with LeBron James replacing Michael Jordon.

In Space Jam: A New Legacy, LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in digital space by a rogue AI. To escape, they must team up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the Looney Tunes to play a high-stakes basketball game against a roster of AI-generated "Goon Squads". In this digitized matchup, it's winner take all and chock full of ridiculous cameos on the spot.

In 2019, an infamous BBC Newsnight interview led to the downfall of Prince Andreu, who was defensive about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Now, five years later, the film "Scoop," based on that very interview, is being released on Netflix. This biographical drama explores all the behind-the-scenes chaos before, during, and after that interview.

Gillian Anderson stars as Emily Maitlis, the Newsnight anchor who conducted the bomb interview, and Andrew is played by Rufus Sewell of The Diplomat. The film also stars Keely Hawes as Amanda Thirsk, Andrew's former private secretary, and Billie Piper as Sam McAllister, the Newsnight producer who negotiated with Buckingham Palace to obtain the interview and wrote the book on which the film is based.

From the producers of "M3GAN," "Night Swim" is a new horror film about a suburban family whose new home gets more than they ever imagined. Wyatt Russell plays Ray, a former baseball player who, after a degenerative disease forces him into early retirement, decides to buy an old house with a dilapidated pool out back with his wife (Kelly Condon). Spoiler alert: the pool is as haunted as it looks.

When Ray puts the pool to use, the family discovers that the pool is not only self-sustaining, but also has a healing effect that puts Ray's illness in remission. Soon, however, they learn that help comes at a price, as the children are attacked by something in the pool and their cat goes missing. Ray's wife, concerned about her husband's sinister transformation, contacts the previous occupants and discovers that a malevolent force has taken possession of the pool and is trying to drag the family in.
