When you buy the best iPhone, the last thing you want to do is wait for it to be updated to the latest version of iOS. Thankfully, Apple is said to be introducing a system called "Presto within Apple" to make this first problem a thing of the past.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Presto is a pad that allows you to wirelessly update your iPhone's software without taking it out of the box; Gurman says the pad looks like a "metal storage box for shoes" and can be used with MagSafe and other He also claims that it can power an iPhone in a box using wireless charging technology.

The idea is that Presto could power up the iPhone without opening the original packaging, install updates on the phone, and then prompt the phone to turn off again. Apparently this could be done in Apple's stockroom before the phone is sold.

In other words, when you buy a phone from Apple, you should be able to set everything up with the latest major version of iOS. This saves the hassle of having to wait for lengthy updates to be installed during the setup process.

The first news about this system appeared in October, and evidence of it was later found in the iOS 17.2 code. Now Gurman claims that Apple has already begun testing the system in select Apple Stores across the United States. Starting next month, Apple will roll it out more broadly, and it is expected to be available in Apple Stores across the U.S. by "early summer."

In the grand scheme of things, this is a fairly small change, and most people probably won't even notice it has happened. However, given that we may have to wait for a major iOS update to be installed, this is a welcome advancement.

So the next time you buy a new iPhone, know that you won't have to sit and wait a long time for updates to be installed before using your shiny new iPhone.
