In "3 Body Problem," there is ambiguity in the aliens' plans, and at first it is hard to tell what they intend to do on Earth. At first, it appears that they are simply refugees fleeing an unstable planet and want peaceful coexistence with humanity, but it soon becomes clear that this is not all. Similarly, "V" has an air of uncertainty about it. When the aliens arrive on Earth, they appear friendly, even benevolent. "V," a remake of the 1983 miniseries of the same name, aired for two seasons on ABC before being cancelled.

Like "3 Body Problems," "Foundation" is based on an ambitious science fiction series and deals with multiple generations preparing for a seemingly catastrophic event. Decades after their arrival on the planet, the "overlords," as they are called, appear to have turned the planet into a utopian society; as seen in "3 Body Problems," some humans embrace the overlords on a spiritual level and view them as guardian angels. If you like the existential dread of "3 Body Problem," "Childhood's End" has plenty of it.

What would actually happen if Earth were invaded by a hostile alien force and all humanity was subjugated to their will? Colony, starring "Lost" native Josh Holloway, takes place in a post-invasion landscape where cities around the world are isolated from one another in colonies controlled by government forces loyal to the aliens. As in any occupation story, there are those who are considered "collaborators," who choose to cooperate with the invaders in the hopes that their daily lives will be improved by taking the more powerful side, and there are those who resist, who instead choose to fight for their freedom. The Colony, which portrayed a fascist regime as well as a literal alien one, was cancelled after three seasons on the USA Network.

As an actual story, "Game of Thrones" has absolutely nothing to do with "3 Body Problem". This is because the medieval-style lands of Westeros are a far cry from modern-day London and outer space. Nevertheless, "3Body Problem" has a sprawling, grandiose tone reminiscent of "Game of Thrones." Thanks to the efforts of showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, who worked on both films, there are more than a few superficial similarities. They brought back composer Ramin Djawadi, who provided the memorable theme for "Game of Thrones," and several actors have re-emerged to collaborate with their former bosses. Indeed, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, and Jonathan Pryce, who all played Sam, Davos Seaworth, and the High Sparrow, respectively, in "Game of Thrones" before appearing in "3 Body Problems," are truly Westerosi reunions.
