One UI 6.1 Update Released This Week - See Which Models Will Add Galaxy AI Features

Owners of recent Galaxy flagships are about to get a major upgrade, as the Galaxy AI feature that debuted on this year's Galaxy S24 lineup is rolling out to select models this week.

Samsung says that the One UI 6.1 update promised in February will begin rolling out to other phones on Thursday (March 28), and the Galaxy AI feature will be the focus of the update. Models that will feature Galaxy AI functionality include last year's Galaxy S23 flagship models (standard S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 FE), Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Also this week, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 WiFi should launch the One UI 6.1 update.

Galaxy AI was a major focus of this year's Galaxy S24 launch, and these phones benefit from AI-powered features designed to improve communication, simplify search, and expand editing capabilities. As such, Galaxy flagships launched last year will benefit from the following features:

Other Galaxy AI features available in the One UI 6.1 update include a note tool that automatically formats and summarizes notes, bringing transcription and summary capabilities improvements to the voice recorder app, and AI-suggested photo editing that removes reflections and other elements from images.

Samsung has promised to offer these features for free until the end of 2025 on devices that support Galaxy AI.

When announcing plans to bring Galaxy AI to more phones last month, Samsung said its goal is to make AI more accessible. TM Roh, Samsung's president and head of mobile, said at the time, "We plan to deliver the experience to more than 100 million Galaxy users by 2024 and continue to innovate how to leverage the endless possibilities of mobile AI."

Apart from the release of the Galaxy S24, Samsung's next big phone rollout will likely feature a new version of the foldable device. Neither phone has been announced yet, but we imagine that when the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 arrive later this year, they will also feature Galaxy AI capabilities.
