Forget the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 - the world's thinnest foldable blows it out of the water

Vivo unveiled the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro in China, both promising to be the thinnest foldable phones ever, blowing away the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google Pixel Fold 2.

The Vivo X Fold 3 measures only 0.40" when folded and 0.18" when unfolded. This is despite three 50MP cameras on the back and a 5,500mAh battery with 80W charging capability inside.

Other hardware specifications of the base Vivo X Fold 3 are modest. The base model has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 6.53" outer display, and an 8.03" inner 120Hz screen.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is slightly thicker than the standard model, at 0.44 inches folded and 0.20 inches unfolded. But instead, it has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and a special imaging chip that promises a higher level of photo detail than the regular X Fold 3.

The Pro also has a slightly different camera, with a 50 MP wide and ultra-wide camera and a 64 MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. The battery is also larger at 5,700 mAh and can be charged at 100W with a wired connection or 50W with a compatible wireless charger.

The Google Pixel Fold 2's size was leaked in February and at the time appeared to be the thinnest foldable phone yet. However, the Vivo X Fold 3 is almost as thick when folded as the Pixel Fold 2, but appears to be 0.2" thinner when unfolded.

Meanwhile, both of Vivo's new foldables are significantly thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's rumored size. Samsung's next foldable will likely feature the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but will likely include all of Samsung's Galaxy AI updates.

No word yet on whether the Vivo X Fold 3 or Vivo X Fold 3 Pro will be available outside of China. We can only wait and see Vivo's plans for this device, but hopefully people in the US, UK, Australia, and beyond will get their hands on the thinnest foldable yet. If we can test it, it could end up being one or two of our best foldable phone picks, if it lives up to Vivo's promises.
