Instead of the current look, Apple could go with a smoother, shinier finish. In doing so, the iPhone 16 Pro models would look like the stainless steel devices of the past, but with the added durability and scratch resistance of titanium.

"Unlike the 15 Pro model, the iPhone 16 Pro model is said to have an improved titanium finish and color treatment and method," writes leaker yeux1122 in a blog post. This leaker suggests that the phone will feature a more polished material and that it could even be more scratch resistant, meaning it will be a visual upgrade as well as a functional one.

This rumor follows suggestions that the iPhone 16 Pro model may have a different color option than last year.

It is worth noting that yeux1122 did not cite a specific source, so this rumor absolutely needs to be taken with a large grain of salt. It would be logical that Apple would offer some improvements to the titanium finish to improve the overall look and feel of their high-end phones. Still, it remains to be seen if Apple can pull it off for the 2024 phone or if it will be on later models.

On the other hand, it is possible that the changes are related to production line efficiency and have nothing to do with the appearance of the titanium. This leaker has a hit or miss track record, so we will have to wait and see what Apple announces in the fall.
