YouTube TV's Multiview gets a major upgrade to match March Madness

YouTube TV is, in my opinion, the best way for cord cutters to watch March Madness. The main reason for this is the multi-view (the ability to watch up to 4 matches at the same time) alternative to cable TV. Therefore, you won't miss a single second.

There is just one catch. Multiview is only available on TVs. At least, it used to be. That's because multiview seems to be migrating to mobile.

According to Cord Cutter News, YouTube TV users report that Multiview is now available on their cell phones. Specifically, iPhones. For now, this Multiview enhancement appears to be limited to iPhones and iPads, which Google confirmed to 9to5Google after users began discovering the feature upgrade. YouTube TV also confirmed via Reddit that the feature will be rolling out to Android users "in the coming months."

This multi-view expansion to mobile devices is another major upgrade for sports fans who rely on YouTube TV. Earlier this year, the live TV service upgraded Multiview by adding a build feature that allows users to create custom Multiviews rather than relying on YouTube TV curated Multiviews.

I tested the build feature and can confirm that it is not a massive upgrade, but simply a better way to do things. Frankly, I am surprised it hasn't been this way all along.

This multi-view enhancement also closes the feature gap with its main competitors. Earlier this year, Apple announced that it would bring Multiview to the iPad, but not the iPhone, for MLS Season Pass subscribers who watch on the Apple TV platform. That seemed like a big advantage for Apple TV over YouTube TV. But now, not only has the gap narrowed, but YouTube TV has kicked its Cupertino rival to the curb.

If you log into YouTube TV on your iPhone and don't see Multiview as an option, don't panic just yet. I tried this feature on my iPhone 14 Pro and could not see Multiview as an option.
