7 New Movies and Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and More (March 22-24)

If you're looking for something to watch this weekend, there are plenty of new shows and movies waiting for you on Netflix, Prime Video, and other top streaming services.

"3 Body Problem," the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller from the creators of "Game of Thrones," leads Netflix's weekend viewing list. Also, the nostalgic favorite "X-Men '97" is back on Disney Plus, and the Kristen Wiig comedy "Palm Royale" debuts on Apple TV Plus.

On the movie front, "Roadhouse" will be rebooted on Prime Video, and the Oscar-winning "Anatomy of a Fall" is coming to subscription streaming. Click here for a guide to what to watch this weekend. The sci-fi series adaptation of Liu Jixin's Chinese novel "The Three-Body Problem" is a big deal because [Game of Thrones] creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and Alexander Wu ("The Terror/Infamy") are on board. The project is further solidified by the addition of Rian Johnson and Brad Pitt as executive producers. My colleague Malcolm McMillan calls "3 Body Problem" the best show of 2024 so far: in 1960s China, a young astrophysicist makes a fateful decision on a secret military base. In the present day, scientists team up with an unorthodox detective to confront mankind's greatest threat.

When I was a kid, my favorite Saturday morning cartoon was X-Men: The Animated Series. Many of the voice actors from the original animated series are back, including Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and Alison Seeley Smith as Storm. Season 1's big bad is Mr. Sinister (Christopher Britton), a scientist who becomes obsessed with mutants and imbues himself with their powers.

Add Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and the legendary Carol Burnett and you have a very watchable production. In this miniseries set in 1969, Wiig plays Maxine Simmons, an ambitious woman who wants to break into Palm Beach's high society. But getting a seat at the glamorous and exclusive table is a dangerous affair, and Maxine's attempts to cross the line between haves and have-nots will be tested. She will be faced with the age-old question: how far are you willing to go to get what you want?

The Emmy Award-winning reality competition show is changing its menu after 20 seasons. Host and judge Padma Lakshmi will step down and be replaced by season 10 winner Kristen Kish, along with Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons. Season 21 heads to Wisconsin to explore the culinary scene in Milwaukee and Madison, followed by the finale on a Holland America Line cruise ship. In addition to new hosts and new locations, there are other major changes in Season 21. For the first time ever, 15 cheftestants will have a chance to win cash prizes for each Quickfire Challenge, and Immunity will now be contested in the Elimination Challenge. [The film is a quintessential reboot of 80s cinema, directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity") with Jake Gyllenhaal replacing Patrick Swayze. Dalton is a former UFC fighter trying to escape his dark past and violent habits. He is hired as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys run by Frankie (Jessica Williams), who is worried about a local gang run by crime boss Brant (Billy Magnussen). Dalton handles Blunt's thugs with ease, but the threat level rises with the arrival of the ruthless hired gun Knox (Conor McGregor).

This French legal drama was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and deservedly won Best Original Motion Picture. Sandra Hüller stars as Sandra Vojter, a famous novelist whose interview with a student is interrupted by her husband who plays loud music. Later, her visually impaired son Daniel (Milo Machado-Graner) returns from a walk with his dog Snoop (the amazing Messi) to find his father dead, presumed dead from a fall from a high-rise. However, due to some inconsistencies, the police charge Sandra with murder. With the help of an old friend and lawyer, Vincent (Swann Arlow), she heads to court, where her marriage comes under intense scrutiny.

Pioneer Shirley Chisholm was a major character in the mini-series "Mrs. America" (played by Emmy winner Uzo Aduba), and now we get to see her own biopic, played by Emmy and Oscar winner Regina King I am very happy to see her own biopic, played by Emmy and Oscar winner Regina King. Chisholm, of course, was the first black woman elected to Congress. The film, written and directed by John Ridley ("12 Years a Slave"), focuses on her historic and landmark run for the U.S. presidency in 1972. King is joined by a stellar co-star cast, including the late Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, and Lucas Hedges.
