Google Makes Adding Custom Ringtones to Contacts Easier - Here's What You Need to Know

Google has begun rolling out a new custom ringtone option that allows users to easily assign a unique sound to each contact.

This was first noticed by leaker Mishaal Rahman in a post shared on X, where he revealed that many users saw a new "Contacts Ringtones" page in version 4.27.26 of the Google Contacts app. Presumably, this page is accessed from the "Fix and Manage" tab, but Google is gradually working on changing it to the new "Organize" tab instead.

Once in the correct menu, users can select new options. On this page, users can specify the ringtones they want to play for each contact. They can also tap the link to return to the settings and change the default ringtone for the entire contact list. However, this feature is not available to everyone; it appears to be a server-side upgrade.

Google has been working since December 2023 to improve the means of assigning specific ringtones to users. Initially, there was a ringtone option on the "Fix and Manage" tab, but over time most of the options disappeared and the menu itself was renamed, so it appears that the menu was still being created at the time. It is still possible to manually add individual ringtones, but it is something of a pain.

This update came shortly after the Google Pixel feature drop in March; one of the more requested features that Google faithfully provided was the extension of Circle to Search to both the Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7a.

Also, an update to the next generation call screen feature was made to help pause at the beginning of a conversation.

These kinds of changes may go unnoticed by many, but they are genuinely better overall. It shows that Google is consistently working to improve and streamline its menus to ensure that customers get the best experience possible.
