Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Leaked Video Confirms Major Design Changes

We have become familiar with curved screens ever since Samsung introduced its Ultra Premium series, starting with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Curved displays have a sophisticated aesthetic, which is one of the reasons why they have been used in Sammy's flagship models for so long. In a recently released video, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a flat screen.

While it gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming flagship, which should be unveiled at Wednesday's Galaxy Unpacked event, the 15-second clip does not reveal the back of the phone. Then again, the original video was posted to the Ice Universe Twitter feed and then deleted, so could have some authenticity.

Anyway, from the shaky video, it is clear that the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a flat display, rather than the typical curved display that has been used in previous series. We can tell at the beginning of the video that it is a flat display because the left and right edges of the display are not sloped at all, and the reflections on them are not distorted.

It is difficult to say why Samsung would make such a design change with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but rumors have long suggested a flatter screen this time around. So far, one of the leading reasons is related to user complaints when using the S Pen on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, namely that it slips off the edge while writing. A phone case would prevent this, but people living on the edge with a naked Galaxy S23 Ultra are probably the culprits behind this change.

Besides that, we can't speculate anything about the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is because we cannot get a glimpse of the back of the phone or what kind of camera it will have. Given that the previous model was the best camera phone of the year, it will be interesting to see what Samsung changes with the S24 Ultra's camera. At the very least, it should still be a 4x camera arrangement, but the bigger question is whether Samsung will really ditch the usual 10x telephoto camera and install a 5x telephoto camera instead.

Most people think it would be a terrible downgrade, but seeing as artificial intelligence will take the lead on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it may not affect the performance of the telephoto camera. Perhaps combined with improved image processing and pixel binning technology, a 5x telephoto camera instead probably won't be that big of a deal.

Meanwhile, the video also shows the Galaxy S24 Ultra's frame, but it's hard to know what that is; the other big design rumor about the Galaxy S24 Ultra is that it will have a titanium frame. Then again, it could simply be the same armor aluminum frame as before.

With only a few days left until Galaxy Unpacked, we will soon know for sure about these design changes. We should also get official details about the other siblings, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Nevertheless, these devices will set the tone for all the others to be released this year.
