Someone made a 4K OLED tablet for PS5 - this is the PlayStation Portal of your dreams.

Someone made a 4K OLED tablet for PS5 - this is the PlayStation Portal of your dreams.

The PlayStation Portal may be a controversial device, but its popularity cannot be denied. That's because Sony's streaming handheld was harder to come by than the Steam Deck OLED when it first launched. But if they could make an actual portable PS5, they wouldn't need the glorified DualSense with a 1080p screen sandwiched in the middle.

Now, I said "you", which is almost certainly not true. If you are anything like me, your technical expertise may be limited to being able to build your own gaming PC. But what YouTuber DIY Perks can do is just next level (thanks, NotebookCheck).

This guy is incredibly talented. So much so that he can build basically anything. From invisible PCs to DIY submarines, this guy is a real wizard. Given this background, it is hardly surprising that he just made a PS5 tablet.

If there's any justice in the world, DIY Perks' "PS Go" (cool name, right?) is a great way to get your hands on a PS5 tablet. - Tomorrow. Unfortunately, his PS5 tablet is nothing more than an incredibly awesome passion project that will never become an actual consumer product.

Still, the way DIY Perks made this baby is fascinating and ...... It also makes my head spin a little. To build his tablet, the YouTuber first took the motherboard from a recent PS5 Slim (which boasts a much smaller mobo than the original PlayStation 5) and then replaced the recently modified console's heat sink with a shorter, wider one. This custom heatsink allowed DIY Perks to place the heatsink next to the motherboard rather than on top of it, allowing his invention to take the form of a tablet.

As you can see in the video above, there are many more innovations to this project. Custom heat pipes, additional mini heat sinks, a 3D-printed shell that represents the PS5's iconic black and white aesthetic, and a 12-volt power supply that is smaller than most laptop power bricks all made this amazing tablet a reality for the PlayStation jumped into the party.

Amazingly, his PS5 tablet runs at a cool 42 degrees Celsius there, even at full load, and this amazing gizmo makes almost no fan noise.

And to really show off, DIY Perks outfitted his device with a 4K OLED screen taken from an Alienware laptop. Watching him play "Horizon Forbidden West," the visual results were nothing less than a PS Portal LCD panel.

To put the last delicious cherry on top of his ingenious device, DIY Perks somehow managed to attach a small subwoofer to his latest very ambitious project. The result is a custom-made gaming gadget that sounds better than the Steam Deck. Gabe Newell should definitely give this guy a call.

Next time I have an hour free, I'll be sure to check out this guy's channel. Or rather, an invisible PC?DIY Perks has more talent in his little finger than most professional game developers have in their entire body. The only problem is that we all have to live in a world where 4K OLED PS5 tablets exist, yet no one can afford them.
