Ridley Scott, director of "Martian" and "Gladiator," also brought us "Matchstick Men," starring Nicolas Cage, Alison Lohman, and Sam Rockwell. Cage plays Roy Waller, a con man suffering from Tourette's syndrome and OCD. Rockwell plays Frank Mercer, his protégé who encourages him to seek help.

At a therapy appointment, Cage reminisces about an old love affair. At his request, the therapist calls his girlfriend and learns that Roy has a daughter named Allison Roman; when the two meet, a rare dynamic not usually seen in con films emerges. Cage plays a fatherly role as he teaches his newly found daughter about his career. Roman and Cage show great scene chemistry. Despite the complex family dynamics, the film is also fast-paced and engrossing from start to finish.

Fans of alien movies will enjoy "Arrival," starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Director, and won one for Best Sound Editing. Adams plays Louise Banks, a linguistics professor who is assigned to lead a research team when a spaceship lands on Earth.

Adams communicates with the aliens and seeks to understand their intentions and whether they are a threat to humanity. It is a beautifully atmospheric sci-fi film that goes beyond the standard storyline one would expect from a film about aliens landing on Earth. There aren't many action scenes, but there are moments that will make you think about how our world would respond if a similar situation were to occur.

Based on a true crime case, "Tallhaught Blonde" tells the story of Thomas Montgomery, played by Garret Dillahunt. After a night of poker, his friends encourage him to join an online poker game, where he meets a girl named Katie Brooks, who calls him by the title name of the film.

What starts out as innocent flirting soon turns into obsession. Things quickly deteriorate when his wife, Carol Montgomery (Laura Sangiacomo), learns of the online affair. This is a made-for-TV movie, but you'll be surprised by Dillahunt's transformation into the insecure and slightly out of character Thomas. Also of note is a brief appearance by Courteney Cox, who directed and produced the film.
