"Fool Me Once" is the first major Netflix show of 2024. The British mystery drama is based on the bestselling novel by Harlan Coben about a recently widowed woman's search for answers after she spots her late husband on a nanny camera. The film debuted at #1 on Netflix in the U.S. and U.K., with more than 61 million hours watched worldwide in the first two weeks of the streaming service's launch.

Its success soon led Netflix to produce two more shows based on Corben's book, but these will not be available for some time yet. So if you're looking for a show like "Fool Me Once" to binge-watch right now, we've got you covered. Below are seven of the best streaming service shows that are just as twisted as "Fool Me Once" and just as engrossing from the get-go.

Like "Fool Me Once," "The Stranger" is a Netflix adaptation of Corben's novel, and the two shows also share a common cast member: Richard Armitage. Like many of the author's works, "The Stranger" begins with a protagonist who lives a seemingly perfect life. Adam seems to have it all, but in Coben's style, this blissful happiness does not last long.

One fateful day, while attending his son's soccer practice, Adam is approached by a mysterious stranger (Hannah John-Kamen) who tells him a shocking secret about his wife Corinne (Dervla Kirwan). Before Adam can get answers, his wife disappears, and as he tries to find out the truth, more hidden secrets are revealed. The Strangers is a show with so many shocking twists and turns that you can't help but hit "play next episode" every time the dramatic cliffhanger ending comes to an end.

"Wilderness," starring Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, is best described as a "twisted love story," and this six-episode series explores how a perfect relationship can split and crack in a matter of seconds If you want a thriller series that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment, "Wilderness" is the next show to watch.

"Wilderness" follows Liv (Coleman) and Will (Jackson-Cohen), a young English couple living the glamorous life in New York City. However, their problem-free relationship is thrown into turmoil when Liv discovers Will's infidelity. On a road trip to one of America's great national parks, Will hopes to reconnect and make up, but Liv doesn't want to make up, she wants something else entirely: revenge.

As mentioned, Netflix has adapted several of Corben's novels into TV shows ("Fool Me Once" is the streamer's eighth Corben-authored series), and "Stay Close" in 2021, no doubt, the best film to date to come out of this partnership. It received 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated collaboration between a streaming service and an author.

"Stay Close" is more ambitious than some of Corben's more straightforward stories: hardworking mother of three Megan (Kush Jumbo), jaded photographer Ray (Richard Armitage), and detective Bloom (James Nesbitt). Another mysterious disappearance reveals an unwelcome truth, and the lives of the three protagonists hang in the balance.

If you're looking for a show like "Fool Me Once," the slightly more upbeat (and not set in England) "One of Us is Lying." Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Karen M. McManus, it begins with five high school students serving detention. But this is no "Breakfast Club". When one of their classmates has a sudden allergic reaction, these very different students don't become fast friends, but rather murder suspects.

Once the police determine that the death was not a tragic accident and that each of the four students who were in detention at the time of the incident had a motive for the murder, the investigation begins. What follows is a rather anticlimactic story, and one might expect some questionable logic in this journey, but nevertheless, "One of Us is Lying" is very entertaining throughout, and successful enough to warrant a very solid second season.

"Bodyguard" has the same twist as "Fool Me Once," but with a little less schlock, as David Budd, a former soldier with PTSD who now works as a private security guard for celebrity clients in London is played by Richard Madden of Marvel's "Eternals" fame.

When David is assigned to guard ambitious politician Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes), he finds himself at a crossroads. Montague is an elected member of the British Parliament and has her sights set on becoming Prime Minister. But her political beliefs run counter to everything David believes in, and as he grows closer to Julia, it becomes clear that the person hired to protect her may be her greatest threat. The Bodyguard builds to a suspenseful finale with two powerful performances at its core.

Released in 2018, "Safe" is the first collaboration between Netflix and Harlan Coben and deals with many of the same subjects as "Fool Me Once." In this depiction of the dark underside of everyday society, a family man's life is thrown into turmoil when his daughter goes missing. Michael C. Hall plays Tom, a newly widowed father of two teenage daughters, whose mission to find his missing daughter leads to the discovery of a long-buried secret.

Also starring Amanda Abbington, Mark Warren, Audrey Flute, and Hannah Arterton, "Safe" is a typical Corben production, with each of its eight episodes slowly peeling back layers of a very compelling mystery. Naturally, each chapter ends with a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving you on the trail of what happens next. If you enjoyed Fool Me Once, this thriller series is sure to be equally engrossing.

The always excellent Toni Collette stars in "Pieces of Her," a dramatic thriller that debuted on Netflix in March 2022. Like the other films on this list, this eight-part limited series centers on a twisted mystery in which the protagonist, Andy (Bella Heathcote), is determined to find the truth, even at a personal cost, and embarks on a journey to find answers.

PIECES OF HER begins when Andy and his mother, Laura (Colette), witness a shooting at a local restaurant. But when Laura steps in and skillfully eliminates the threat, Andy wonders about the secret her mother has been keeping. But shortly after this dramatic event, a sinister ghost from Laura's past returns, causing chaos and forcing Andy to flee as long-hidden truths come to light.
