New OLED iPad Could Be Most Expensive Tablet Ever

For those eagerly awaiting the launch of the iPad Pro 2024 with OLED display, there is bad news (at least for your wallet): according to the latest information from MacRumors, the price of Apple's OLED iPad Pro model will be about double that of the current LED and mini-LED could be about double that of current LEDs and mini-LEDs.

Apple's 2024 OLED iPad Pro prices could start at $1,500 for the 11-inch model and $1,800 for the 13-inch model, according to MacRumors, although one report has the larger model priced up to $2,000. possibly the price of an option with additional storage, according to the report.

This is considerably more expensive than the best iPads currently on the market (11- and 13-inch Pro models start at $799 and $1,099, respectively) and dwarfs some MacBook prices. For reference, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple's top-of-the-line M3 chip costs $1,599, while the previous-generation but still quite powerful MacBook Air M2 starts at $1,099.

It is no secret that upgrading to an OLED display will bump up the price of the device. Unlike traditional LED and LCD TVs, OLED (short for organic light-emitting diode) panels use organic compounds that emit light when charged by an electric current. However, as with any technological advancement, it will be some time before manufacturers adopt this technology on a scale that will allow them to lower the price tag that customers see in stores.

Therefore, Apple's 2024 OLED iPad Pro price increase can be attributed to the OLED panel, which Apple has never used in an iPad before, including a very thin design with a "two-stack tandem" construction, according to MacRumors, We speculate that Apple's unique screen specifications may also be responsible for the higher cost compared to other OLED devices on the market. This type of OLED panel uses two layers to display red, green, and blue pixels. Samsung and LG Display, which manufacture the displays, reportedly designed this two-layer tandem OLED panel specifically for the iPhone maker.

It is worth noting, however, that for its higher price, you are getting a tablet with a display that lasts longer, is more efficient and brighter than the typical LED screen.
