7 Best Valentine's Day Movies to Watch with Friends

Gather your best friends. Because today is Galentine's Day, an unofficial holiday "where women celebrate women." Pour some wine, pop some popcorn, smash some chocolate, and watch seven movies about female friendship.

Valentine's Day is the day before Valentine's Day, February 13. It was invented by a character named Leslie Knope in Season 2 of Parks and Recreation. She invites a group of women to shower each other with compliments, gifts, and love over waffles.

Whether you meet your best friends in person or via zoom, you can laugh (and maybe cry) together over these wonderful films. Some of the films were directed by Leslie Knope herself. Some require a rental, but you can watch them on the best streaming services, including Hulu, Peacock, Netflix, and Max.

Here are some recommendations for films to watch on Galentine's Day.

Girls just want to have fun, and so do moms. Amy (Mila Kunis) is an overworked, exhausted mother of two who discovers that her husband is cheating on her. Fed up, stressed out, and annoyed with the PTA president, Amy heads to a nearby bar. There she meets two struggling mothers, Carla (Kathryn Hahn) and Kiki (Kristen Bell). They stay up all night drinking to ignore their worries and cares for just a few moments, and they band together to take on the PTA president and his faction of seemingly perfect moms. [High school seniors Amy (Caitlin Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) are academically top of their class. Realizing how much fun they have missed out on while studying, the best friends decide to break the rules and attend a big party with their classmates for one night. Their hopes, fears, crushes, resentments, and insecurities all boil over, and the night becomes an unforgettable fiasco. When things go wrong and arguments ensue, Amy and Molly can count on one thing: their unwavering friendship.

But Annie's life is a mess; her bakery is failing and her boyfriend has dumped her. Being a bridesmaid is expensive and she has no money. Still, she is determined to do a decent job for Lillian, but she grows resentful of her other bridesmaid, Helen (Rose Byrne), who seems wealthy and perfect. Annie snaps, and a rift develops between the friends.

Bekah (Anna Kendrick), new to college, has no desire to form a clique. But somehow she joins one of them, the all-female a cappella group Bellas. Bekah finds herself among a variety of characters, including the playful Patricia, aka "Fat Amy" (Rebel Wilson), the uptight leader Aubrey (Anna Camp), the friendly Chloe (Brittany Snow), and the extremely quiet Lily (Hannah Mae Lee) . They have little in common except for the fact that they love to sing, and yet they sing together very well. The group is on the verge of collapse as Beka pushes for a new arrangement instead of the traditional medley, but it may be just the right sound for Bella and her friends to win the regional qualifying round.
